I always wanted a commercial farm and when Amar Johanssen moved into the neighborhood with his perfect skills and all those gold badges, I knew he was the man, er, beast for the job.

This is a working farm. It has 8 each of the 3 fruit trees and 10 each of the 8 vegetables, as well as a fully-stocked fish pond. Ambiance has not been neglected however, and Amar's customers love his quaint, old-fashioned store where they can buy groceries, fresh fish and produce, and kitchen appliances. They often stay after making their purchases to play chess or chat around the fireplace.

Amar recouped most of his investment through his business perks. He is just barely breaking even at this point but looking forward to increasing his wholesale discount. When all is said and done, his main interest is giving back to the community. In that spirit, he desires to assist any young would-be farmers with starting their own Fish Marts. There is a crop of apples and lemons just waiting to be picked and the eggplants will be ready in a day or so. In addition, he has left several dozen crates of fish and produce out behind the packing shed to tide you over until your first harvest.

It's time to put that green thumb to use!

How To Play:

Just like in real life, it's hard to make money at farming. It requires either lots of sweat equity or cold cash. This farm and store takes at least 5 Sims to run: two gardeners, one cashier and two to rotate between, sales, restocking, and fishing. I have it to rank 7 with a customer limit adjuster set to 10-12 and without the line of small electrics, it would probably be losing money. I even have the decorative items set for resale. But it's a blast to play. Plus your other playables can go buy fresh items. If you're tired of just getting careers, earning skills, and waiting to see what the kids will look like, you need a change. Come explore the OFB challenge.

There are some great specialized items at Simwardrobe that will really allow you to to ramp up the whole experience. If you are leery of working with that many mods at once, just add one or two at a time until you are comfortable.

First off, you must have both the fish- and produce-packing stations to access the extra inventory. The crates are part of the unit download. These units allow you to pack fish in units of 6 and produce in units of 12. Your profit per sale is bigger and the crates look cool in the store. If you pack too many, they can easily be unpacked again so you can restock the individual items.
Apples can be purchased from the apple barrel by a playable Sim but unselected Sims won't buy them and there is no way to make money off the sale. However, when the owner buys them, they can be placed from inventory and marked for resale. They can also be packed and so they are kept behind the counter and treated as cheap imported fruit from...say...Chile...yeah, that's it (permit me my small amusements) and used to tide the business over through winter. What's hysterical is that they are a different color than the in-game apples and go for a different price, just like in the real world.
The penny candy functions like a vending machine. There is no profit, but it's there for the ambiance. If it gets too annoying, just mark it for resale and try to sell the whole unit.
If the environment score redlines inside a greenhouse, check for broken sprinklers. The growlights are 2K a pop so to save money, rotate them with the crops. Absolutely necessary for increased yield.

Say you've got just one guy that wants to try his hand at farming. As it stands, OFB doesn't allow you to hire fishers and gardeners. You get the
employee gardening and fishing controllers. The fields get tended and all fish caught and produce harvested go straight to the owner's inventory. The hired hands will also earn badges although you won't get official notification.
You will also need an AL fix (listed below) for the Maxis bug that causes harvested plants to remain on lots. Otherwise, the employees will turn around to harvest unharvestable plants and waste time.
The owner's sales are doing so well that he doesn't have time to plant. Use the planting controller and field markers that come with the gardening controller to set the number and placement of crops. The employees will use fertilizer at $10 a bag though, so if he's got some compost ready, he should fertilize the plots himself.
Well, things are really hopping now and the employees don't even have time to take breaks. Their new badges are so shiny but they are feeling overworked and underpaid. It would be a shame if they quit... all that experience gone to waste! The owner gets two time clocks and instead of running one shift of 5 for eight hours, he runs two shifts of 4 for 6 hours. The crew doesn't even need breaks and with the auto-raise function, everyone is justly rewarded.
Now that everything is running so smoothly, the owner begins to get annoyed that Maxis is sending him a measly 4 or 5 customers when his computer can handle up to 25 Sims on a lot so he gets a customer limit adjuster. The store is rather small though, so he reasonably sets it for 10-12. With the extra business, he is no longer upset when people hang around chatting by the fire or playing chess and doesn't have to waste time running them off, etc., etc., etc.

I think you probably got it by now. I have everything mentioned here in my game. The only problem I have seen is that the "compost" option for sickly plants drops out of my queue. I don't know if this is another FT/AL bug or what. I didn't garden enough before I installed those EPs to know. The plants can still be deleted though.

Everything is really easy to use and comes with readmes.

If you don't get these, I believe they revert to the souvenir shelf. Not as nice for the store. I wanted to use the new Maxis wall shelves but the produce wouldn't go on them!

These items interfered with the packaging of the lot so they were removed. I leave you to make up your own mind.

Unfortunately I was also unable to package the hydroponic gardens. If you get these in your game, the house plants they produce are not able to be marked for resale but they can be sold in the regular way for $350.
