Hi Guys

*** Please read ALL of this post before downloading ***

Would you mind testing this new modern design wall mounted (log effect) gas fire for me please?

Made with SimPE v 0.34, EP ready and unique GUIDs (all fifteen of them).

I consider this an ALPHA release, basically because it has known issues (that I have yet to resolve).

This new gas fire (with ceramic logs and natural flame) was cloned from a chimney fireplace (Gentrific “Way of the Wood”). It is a fully functioning fire, complete with all animations and sounds (light, poke, warm self, etc.,) and consequent responsibilities (i.e it will burn things placed to close to it!). It also retains all the special lighting effects of a fire (see pics) by ‘glowing’ on nearby walls/objects at night…which is rather cool!

However (because of the way the game works) normally, fireplaces appear in the Build mode, and their catalogue descriptions are held within a master package file of the game, (not in individual packages).

However (thanks to the wonderful Numenor for this info) by adding them to the normal ‘buy’ catalogue, their built-in descriptions and catalogue entries appear in the BUY mode. (You will not find this in the BUILD fireplaces section)

So, I decided to add this item to the APPLIANCES – ALL (the infinity sign) section - at a cost of 1999 simoleons - so it will probably be the last icon to appear in your appliances catalogue list.... (after all, it is a gas ‘appliance’!)

However, using this method has a strange (but wonderful for me! ) side-effect:

This gas fire is actually a full 4 tile fireplace plus chimney.
However, as a result of the catalogue placement, the game decides to ignore the chimney (see pics) when you first buy it, (reducing it from a 4 tile object to a 2 tile one!) and allow you to place it ANYWHERE you want…even NOT against a wall. You can even place it underneath a window or outside!

HOWEVER….if you try to move it AFTER you have placed it in the game, the ‘hidden’ chimney TILES suddenly appear (so it becomes a 4 tile object!) … and the game will NOT let you place it anywhereyou have to delete it and start again.(This appears to be for NON Expansion Pack users.)

HOWEVER, Numenor says that in HIS game, he CAN place the moved gas fire (+ newly appeared chimney) against a wall, like a normal fireplace. Now, I don’t have the EP, so this seems to be something particular to do with that. All I know is that in MY original TS2 game, I have to delete it and choose a new gas fire. I cannot get the chimney part of it to appear AT ALL in my game (which I personally think is great!! – I hate those damn chimneys!)…but you may have it differently. Please let me know. (TheSims2Master also tested it yesterday with the Expansion pack and says he can move it, like Numenor.... . He also reported that he played for one Sim hour without any problems. I have played for several without problems.)

Basically, (if you don't have the expansion pack) the trick is to position yourself correctly BEFORE you buy the fire so that you can place it in the right place…first time. Once in place, it functions well, and remains correct, even after leaving and re-entering your lot. (the recolours are also totally stable). The normal cheats (move/snap) make no difference...so there's no point in usung them.

There is one other known issue (which is nothing to do with the catalogue placement).
It is the fire animations. During the game, if the fire is lit, the fire animations can sometimes ‘bleed’ through the bottom of the fire (but they don’t actually cause a fire ), especially if you poke it!. This is because the original fireplace is a floor level, and the logs sit on supports above it. I have removed the supports (for the design of the fire), but have not changed the height of the logs. Other than these two issues mentioned here, it seems to function normally as a fire in both mine and Numenors games.

However, your feedback is needed if you find any other issues not spotted by myself or Numenor.

It is available in Silver/White, Blue, Red and Bronze. (The default colour is silver/white). Please do not post recolours of this object yet... it is still very much in the testing stage.... When I'm happy that it's OK...I'll ammend this post....

So… thanks for testing … and please let me know of any OTHER issues than those listed above.

Bob

I strongly recommend the use of a fire alarm, (as with all fires in the game). Please don’t shout at me if you burn your house down!!... you have been warned. This is NOT just decoration….it is a fully working fire.
