Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Last code update 2014-06-07 - Fixed animation so it is now usable by adult sims; minor fixes and adjustments.

The Death Note grants its user the ability to kill anyone whose name and face they know, by writing the name in the notebook while picturing their face...

Inspired by the Death Note Manga/Anime series.

Requires base game patch level 1.42 or higher (tested till 1.67).

The Death Note cannot be bought, it was dropped on Earth by a shinigami (a god of death), you will need to find it...

Main Features:
  • Write Sim's Name - Allows you to pick a Sim (from known sims, celebrities or in current lot); the sim's name will be written in the Death Note and the sim dies.
  • Write Cause of Death - If the Death Note is clicked while a sim's name is being written, it allows you to specify the cause of Death for the sim.
  • Read Instructions - Shows the Death Note instructions.

The available Death types depends on the installed EPs and on the current Sim state (e.g. Mummy's Curse death is only available with World Adventures EP; Drowning death is only possible if the sim is swimming; etc).
Due to some EA bugs, there are some cases where the grim reaper resets and fails, leaving a sim's corpse in an inconsistent state - to avoid this, this mod has a clean up mechanism, that if a death note's killing isn't completed after 3 sim-hours, it will reset the sim back to life.

There is an optional tunning package available, for users who are familiar with editing them in S3PE.
In the tunning package some options can be modified, e.g. ShowCreationLocation, MoveCameraToTarget, WritingDuration, AllowAdults, etc...

Special thanks to Vaan.21 for coming up with the idea for this mod.

Happy killing...

Even if Buzzler did a custom animation, maybe he would let you use it for this? I think this is ultimately awesome, but I'm sad I can't use it for adults (YA or A). I rarely play children or teens; I tend to get impatient with their lack of available interactions and abilities, and I set their age span to really short.

It might be interesting, however, to make an immortal teen (with an age freeze potion) and turn him into Kila.

Thanks for all the positive comments!
seriously, you guys filled over one page of comments in less than 12h!...

Supporting adults to use the death note is definitely on my list, I will check how Buzzler did it in the Scribbling Pad (didn't know about it before), and using a custom Jazz script could also be an option here.
Other alternative would be to use the paparazzi taking notes animation, but that might only be available with the Late Night EP.
Anyway it might take a few weeks till I find the time for it though...

There's also the Write Thank You Notes animation that could be used for adults, but I don't know if, like the paparazzi taking notes, it's restricted to an EP (Generations?) Video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c28UsuR6uYs

Other than that, wow, what a creative idea! Also loving that it's open to children and teens, it fits the original Death Note vibe even better. >:D

My teen was just getting ready to age up for Uni, but now I'll dial her age back so I can reenact a sort of Carrie prom night.

Oooh, I just caught the line in the tuning about use by YA/A, but no animation. As long as my sims can kill remotely, even if I don't see them signing the execution, I can more than live with that. I mean, Obama signs these things for drone strikes all the time, but we don't watch him doing that.

Downloaded it but can't use it since I have no teens or children in my family :/ I think you should use the animation when they write love letters from this mod also so that adults can use it too!

Just wondering if you can use the "taking notes" during Lecture animation done in University Life, but of course you may need that EP for the animation to work. I think it is exactly like the students' "doing homework" animation though!

Nonetheless, I love this idea! Great for storytelling purposes, definitely! Thank you!

Isn't writing love notes a base game animation, if patched to 1.42? Maybe use that for Young Adults and older?

Anyway, great touch for story tellers. Good job!

I made my evil couple try for a baby as soon as I saw this. Between this note and Dexter the Bear, It looks like it's time to build a bigger cemetery in Moonlight Falls.

Thanks for making it!
