LotAdjuster 2.8

Version 2.8 fixes a bug where the error "can't intersect other objects" can occur even when no such object exists.

Occupied Apartment Life apartments cannot be modified.

LotAdjuster 3.x
There is a new version of the LotAdjuster available here:

Version 3.x allows you to adjust lots in lot-sized tiles, rather than neighborhood-sized tiles. This alternate version also allows you to shift buildings on a lot by expanding one side and shrinking the other. Several other bugs have been fixed in 3.x which remain in 2.x.

Version 2.8, which adjusts in hood-sized tiles, will remain available here. It's a bit easier to use, but provides less flexibility.

The LotAdjuster allows you to modify a "Sims 2" lot in a variety of ways, including:
- Enlarge a lot up to a size of 6x6, which is the EA-imposed TS2 limit.
- Enlarge a lot over the road; allow building on both sides of the road.
- Shrink a lot; allow building to within one tile of the edge of a lot; create pseudo rowhouses.
- Move a lot within a neighborhood; move a lot away from the road.
- Add and remove roads; create a roadless lot; create a lot with multiple roads: corner lot, alleyway, service road, square.
- Unlock tiles on a lot.
- Fix vehicle and pedestrian portal locations, as well as the location of the mailbox, trash can, and phone booth.
- Fix the edges of a lot: smooth, flatten, or match neighborhood terrain.
- Fix crashing beach lots. See this link for further details:

This version of the LotAdjuster works with all expansion and stuff packs, up to and including The Sims 2 Mansion & Garden Stuff.

The LotAdjuster is the successor to the LotExpander:

- The LotAdjuster is released under the GNU General Public License.
- The program uses some DLLs from SimPE; they are included in the zip file.
- You need the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0:

To install, just download and unzip it. Run the EXE from the unzipped location. This is "alpha" software and is still in development; it is not guaranteed to work and may corrupt your lot. Be sure to backup your game before using this tool.

I have included the source code for version 2.8 in There is no need to download this file unless you are a C# programmer who wishes to look at or modify the code.

I left the previous version ( available, in case there are any unforseen problems. There is no need to download this file.

Running under OS/X:
Please read this thread for information about running the LotAdjuster under OS/X:

At this time, there are no instructions available for the LotAdjuster; hopefully, some will be available soon. In the interim, please see the LotExpander instructions and substitute "LotAdjuster" for "LotExpander". The screenshots will be different than the LotAdjuster, but the basic method is the same.

Advanced options are changed by clicking the "Advanced" button on the lot information screen. Options in this category are more likely to require special handling. Be sure to test your lot thoroughly before sharing it.

If you have any problems with the new LotAdjuster, or if you have suggestions that you would like to see implemented, please let me know.

How to Help:
1) I'm trying to get together a list of "Search Keywords" for this post. I would appreciate people telling me what keywords they used to search for this program. This is especially useful if their initial search failed, since I can add these keywords to help other people find the LotAdjuster.

2) The LotAdjuster is a general purpose tool with a wide range of applications. The main thing that we need right now is tutorials on how to use the various features to create special types of lots. If you create a tutorial which is relevant, please post a link to your tutorial and I will include it here. Some of my thoughts on tutorials which might be helpful:

Additional Credits:
This program is derived from the LotExpander, which was designed and developed by Andi8104. Without his work, the LotAdjuster would not exist.

Thank you to all of the people who helped to make this tool a reality, including aelflaed, baratron, ebonyspiral, ikbod, Inge Jones, ingeli, KariMinger, ladykatsim, Mutantbunny, niol, plasticbox, pljones, Quaxi, and Rascal.

I'm sure that I've forgotten some people, since so many people have helped with the development of this program. If you know of someone who's been missed, it was not intentional. Please let me know and I'll add them to the list.

No, not in-game.
One still has to close the game before running LotAdjuster to resize lots or else...

I can't wait to test this out on my game.

I have a question, what is an alleyway, I mean I know what an alleyway is, but what does it mean to have an alleyway in-game?

Also, has the 'Rowhouse' method of making a lot smaller to make it go to the very edges been proven false? (Pb has many threads up about it ;P)

If yes, does building one tile off of the lot's boundary still work out fine? No glitches or anything?

And also, I'm assuming that a corner lot is like the Broke's house in Pleasantview, correct?

(xD so many questions)

thank you so much! I've had a lot that I originally built too big that I've wanted to finish up for a year but didn't want to rebuild on a smaller lot. This was just the ticket. It worked great!

shrinking to the *very edge* of the lot has been found to be unsafe -- it caused crashes and data corrption for some people, so this is why it's not an option now.

However, we have found no problems with shrinking up to one tile from the boundary with a new version of the LotExpander (that has now become the LotAdjuster) -- even now that we know what to look for and how to "force" a corrupt lot to crash, nobody crashed with any of the test uploads and not a single glitch has been reported.

The LotAdjuster handles shrinking differently from the old LE; it'll prevent you from doing anything dangerous. If you look at the discussion thread in R+D you'll see that this has been tested very thoroughly, for several months now .. it very much looks like shrinking to a one-tile limit is something the game can handle just fine.

An alleyway is a road which runs at the back of your house, ie. parallel roads. For example, you might want to put your garage at the back of the house and leave the front of the house for carpools, buses, taxis, and service vehicles. Or, you might want to have a "service road" at the back, which the maid, gardener, handyperson, etc. use, and leave the front of your lot for other visitors.

If you add road(s) to your lot, the LotAdjuster does its best to place your portals, but you will probably want to use the Portal Revealer and buyable portals to specify the types of vehicles which use the new roads:

Yes, this is correct.

If you had a better (or alternate) name for alleyways, please let me know. I must admit that I was unsure what to call this style of lot. I took the name from a style of house common to the area where I live. The main road runs at the front of the house and a private road with garages is at the back.

Just FYI: we are looking at ways to reduce the restrictions on shrinking. It's possible that we can get closer to the ideal of rowhouses than we currently are. However, I wanted to get this version out, so that everyone can play with it, while we work on trying to find the minimal set of restrictions which produce "safe" lots.

Oh, thank you so much for this new version. I had a lot that I expanded the wrong way because I cannot tell the right from left and it's been sitting in my lot bin since. Now I can properly shrink it back! Thank you so much for sharing.

No, the LotAdjuster modifies lots, not neighborhoods. With the LotAdjuster, you can add or remove roads from your lot.

If you want to add or remove roads from your neighborhood, you need to use HoodReplace:

There's a tutorial available in the thread:

Note that you will need SimCity 4 / Rush Hour / Deluxe to add roads to your neighborhood.

I actually meant that you can change the lots that you're playing-but not in-game, of course; I phrased it wrong. I haven't changed any yet, but I'm sure that it will come in handy. I got SimPE about 3 weeks ago, along with the NET 2.0 framework, so it's all coming together nicely.
Anyway, a great contribution-and it deserves the "featured downloads" star!

can we modifie beach lots?

Yes, mutantbunny has done a set of smaller empty beach lots using one of the private test versions of this program... sorry that I don't have the link handy. But, he might be able to give you some pointers.
