The mailbox usually refixes itself back to an apartmental mailbox if you force an error on it.

Darn Old folks.

Did that. Nothing. And actually as far as mailboxes go, it turns out this isn't working for any of my Sims, existing NL or NL delivered since getting this. I haven't checked out whether it works for the cell phone problem or the cooking skill thing (though I never even noticed the cooking skill problem in the first place). Also, I noticed another glitch where Sims' portraits are refreshed whenever changing outfits or taking showers. I don't know how widely known that one is, so I just thought I'd point that out.

Sims living in apartments are unable to:
call a repairman
call an exterminator
call a gardener
call the garden club
start a home business

not a bug, but a "feature". Source Chapter 5 page 57 under telephone interactions in the guide.

I've have had a major bug from this which really saddens me.

I installed this patch and used it. The neighbours were getting a bit to friendly and stopping by at all hours, walking in and using the television and waking up the dogs. That wasn't so bad, but I removed the patch to see what would happen. Well that restored boundaries to the apartment, so that was all good.

Then my sim got a want to go visit his neighbour. So I sent him over to knock on the door, and she let him then. Everything was black! The sims, the furniture, everything was solid black. They could still interact like normal however. He had visited her before and it wasn't black, then it was just like a normal house.

So I took out the patch and reloaded the game. It still is all black in the neighbours house. I'm not sure why this is happening. It is really disappointing actually, because I enjoyed that feature of visiting the neighbours in colour while I had it.

I recommend people do not install this patch unless they are having problems, just in case this happens to them.

I should also mention that I had no other mods installed at the time so there could not have been a conflict. Also my graphic card is decent and my game runs very smoothly otherwise.

Erica, one effect is a "feature". The other is a bug. Both have been reported in clean games well before Fishy came out with this patch.

For the first, lock your apartment door against visitors by clicking on the door and picking the option. Otherwise, they think they can go wherever they please.

For the second, there's not a known solution yet. I haven't run into the bug, but I've seen multiple pictures of it. On release day. Before alfixes.

Do install this hack. I had a couple almost evicted due to bug #2 addressed in this hack. I chose not to save right as the eviction action started.

Kalynn, do you have the buyable mailbox? This needed to be updated for AL, otherwise the apartment version was immediately overwritten. There is a new version at http://daydream.etowns.net/ . The portrait change is a "feature". I hate it. Grr.

I'm having issues with the buyable mailbox, and the sim a little dream a lot website directed me to this forum.. I've downloaded the new AL compatible version, installed it like normal, but it does not appear anywhere in the buy catalogue, under any category. Any ideas?

Athari, this is not an issue with the download concerned in this thread. You'll need to ask at the Simalittle site about concerns with their hacks.

Yeah they screwed up. It doesn't appear in the buy catalog but if you know how you can use SimPE you can change that. Otherwise you'll just have to wait until it's fixed.

I think I have/had something along those lines, but it wasn't from that site. Assuming I still have something like that, it sure doesn't have "mailbox" in its name.

Thank you for the fixes, you are great etc....but you have heard it all before.

So here goes.... I dare to sit on your lawn and patiently wait, I won't touch the flowers or the gnomes, I got sandwiches, suns screen and a flask of tea and so I sit and wait for the patch to stop those damn new AL townie spawns every time I enter a lot.

I tailor remake my new townies to match my game play and I am forever seeing a new one that I have not 'edited'. I have to hunt them down every time I enter a lot and turn them into what I want. No sooner have I done this, popped to the shops and frood matood a new one appears. Tried to kill them but that does not work as the notownieregen is not effective.

So here I am, eating my third cucumber sandwich, patiently waiting, hoping, praying that you may find it in your heart to fix this ruddy annoying thingy. Don't hit me, I am sensitive to blows to the head and I got a belly ache.

Make sure you're not using any other mailboxhacks. I will recheck the next time I get NLmail at an apartment, but it was working when I stamped this.

That is a "feature" and not a bug, as EAxis did this intentionally. It seems to be hardcoded, however, so we're stuck with this irritation. I wouldn't mind so much if the POSE didn't change, really.

Rock on!! Kudos to you J.M. Pescado!! Thanks so much. You are so talented, more than those guys at EA. You make us a game, we would all buy it. Put those EA fatcats (do nothing after the game is released) out of business!

After installing this patch, my sims couldn't learn the lifelong skills from bookshelfs.

Help?
Coffee, anyone?

This is not a help thread. Please do the gamehelp FAQ before posting in the Tech help section. You probably have conflicting mods/out dated mods.

I'm worried that my latest Salvation Army donation will result in homeless people looking like sluts from the 90s.

My sims don't cook autonomously (they only take snacks and 'stuff face' if left to their own devices). They do this with no mods or cc as well as with.
Mentioning it here because I'm pretty sure this is an apartment bug (although I can't see any other references to it anywhere) so maybe this can be added to the future bug-fix list. Also, whenever the game changes daytime (fades from day to evening, night to morning etc) I have a weird delayed darkness (like the choes in the first neighborhood, again, with a completely clean (no download at all) or not - hoping future version of this might fix that too (sorry if this post is completely wrong or whatever, moderators feel free to delete if it is, etc).

One new residential lot's mailbox (has never been apartmented) DOES work after using this patch, but others made (and zoned) prior to this fix don't seem affected (are still buggy with the mailgirl flicking forever around the box which also flicks back and forth). -- not a request for help, just reporting. Thanks, and thank you for this patch, at least now future lots have hope!

UPDATE -- Apparently the failure to cook autonomously (option has always been there for me to manually order them to it) seems to be linked to my usage of the Apartment "Uniquee Separators" on Residential lots as uhm.. regular apartment doors (using the "lock me only' option).
I replaced the doors in my 42 unit residental 'projects' with "value wood justadoors' and it seems to have fixed the problem as my sims are now cooking (and setting off fires galore as I had zeroed out all their cooking skills in my efforts to fix this).

Anyway, it seems to NOT be a problem with this patch anyway but 'user error' of using an apartment door like.. an apartment door on a non apartment lot) so I needed to update.

PS, I have also seen the "FAQ" and 'guides' but have been unable to locate the forums where we can *discuss* stuff like this (I am visually impaired and yes, play the sims ballooned to low res etc too, so 'that is my story and I'm sticking to it' as to why I can't find the technical issues discussions portions if they do exist).

If one of you mods here could actually give a link to such a thing here that'd be much appreciated, thanks.

Sometime you can unknowingly get a hacked mailbox when you download a lot. You might want to try Delphy's Download Organiser to find out if you have one.
