Molding Clay Builds Creativity

Updated (Feb. 6, 2016) to add the fix for the "Play with 3 toys" aspiration included in the Feb 4, 2016 game patch. This change should be compatible with any game patched to version 1.3.18.1010 (Dec 16, 2014) or later.

Description

Yet another small and simple mod to fix something that bugged me about the game. I had always just assumed that molding clay was building creativity for children and was rather surprised to find that it didn't. I couldn't think of any good reason why it shouldn't. I still can't think of a good reason it shouldn't. Dammit, it should!

Now it does.

Adults can still mold clay, but it won't give them any skill gains as they don't really have an applicable skill. I suppose I could have made it increase their painting skill, but it's not really the same thing. Pity.

Installation Instructions

Just unzip the package file to your Mods folder as usual.

This mod requires The Sims 4 to be patched to at least version 1.3.18.1010 (December 16, 2014).

This mod may cause conflicts with other mods which change the clay modeling interaction. Due to the wide variety of mods and sources for them, it is unlikely I will be able to help you with such a conflict.

Resource Overrides

This just modifies the S4_E882D22F_00000000_0000000000003367 (ClayBlob_Mold) XML resource to add a periodic dynamic skill gain for the child's creativity statistic.

Yeah! Clay is one of my favorite items in this game. It makes sense to me that it would build creativity.

Yup, it still works. I've updated it today to add the aspiration fix from the latest game patch, although the old version will still work fine if you already have that and are happy with it.

I have been very much enjoying this mod! It just popped into my head earlier while playing how nice it would be to have clay recolors, just like Play-Doh has always been. This plain grey in game is so dull. And since you have this one I thought of you, as I don't know where else I would go to request this.

@Ella Michelle I think you might be interested in this override by ajoya-sims: Colorful "Play-Doh" for the Kiddos". You can have either pink or blue clay instead of tan. Makes it much more appropriate for kids. And it works fine with this mod for me since it just changes the color.

Oh, thanks for that! I didn't know. Going to take a look at it right now. Any color outside of the default would be a welcome one and I love both pink and blue. It always surprises me for some reason why we are given only that ugly tan shade in game. I'm always thinking "...but Play-doh has SO many vibrant colors", so why only yuck color? *sigh*

Still seems to work but the menu is missing its text. I might have a go at updating it I if I figure out how.
