Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
Holy crap, custom patterns!

Yes, folks, it's true - these are fully custom patterns for The Sims 3. These are not just colour-slidered versions of the ones that come with the game - they're fully separate, unique, and full of kickassitude and win.

Groovy retro patterns inspired by real retro/vintage wallpaper and fabric designs. Suitable for wallpapers, bedspreads, and really funky clothes - or whatever your heart desires! All patterns have 4 colour options and show up in Abstract.

But how did you do it?!

Magic and pancakes!

Get out those vector editors because it is tedious, time-consuming, and about as much fun as poking yourself in the eye with a sharp stick over the course of several hours. But if you're just a glutton for punishment, here's a tutorial.

Version 1

These can be considered version 1 - smaller file sizes coming soon! These are also highly experimental and may not be perfect - if they blow up your computer, eat all your gummi bears, or make a pass at your sister, well, don't be too surprised. I've used 'em myself and had others test them so they do work.

How do I use them?!

See here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?...g_Package_Files

Do what it says. No whining about RARs - you should know this stuff by now!

Special thanks go to:

Delphy, for putting up with my "it doesn't work" - "no, it still doesn't work" - "now I found a bug" - "hey, it crashed" - for hours on end.

All you crazy cats who figured out the back-end gubbins. You know who you are.

Silent and Emino, for testing.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

Wow! Thank you for all the hard work you put into these.

With this situation, will it even be possible to set up transparent layers or "transparent looking" layers (maybe with some kind of shadowing effect), to make lace patterns? I really miss my lace curtains, and after reading your tutorial, I am beginning to despair of ever having them in my houses.

Edited: Ok, I'm on Vista (64-bit) and didn't think the patterns were there, but I checked and they are. They're just not listed as custom, which threw me a bit.

ETA: My game installed under c:\Program File (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, not under the Documents folder, just to let others know.

I am running XP but I can not get them to show up Here is what I did:OKay call me a dork but I can not seem to get these to work.
I installed Delphy's Resource.cfg by Going to My Computer/programfiles/electronic arts/sims 3 then (cut and Paste)
Then I made a folder in there mods and inside that packages. So I then unzipped the patterns in a folder and cut and pasted them by going to My computer/ programfiles/electronic arts/sims3/mods/packages.
They have not showed up what did I do wrong LOL

These kick ass so hard, I have a size 12 boot print on my butt.

I'm worried that my latest Salvation Army donation will result in homeless people looking like sluts from the 90s.

i know it's been a long time but i just thought i'd pipe up to say that one of these patterns is an exact match for the carpet in room 237 in the shining, seriously it is EXACTLY the same pattern. Creepy, and brilliant (it's archfiend if you're curious).

I know this is an old thread but this just what I need in order to recreate Brucey21's Sprawling 70's rancher from the sims2. I just love it!
