Picked Upload! This is a picked upload! It showcases some of the best talent and creativity available on MTS and in the community.
This is my Tower Hall building, a huge 12-story 54-room dorm hall. I made it since I wanted a "big" dorm building, and yes this one is huge lol. There's also a stripped-down 27-room version (same size building though, just some empty rooms) on my site at http://www.tliquest.net/sims.

Custom content (the original had more content, but I stripped most of it except for the elevator stuff - so note that the pics might be a little different):

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Basic Download and Install Instructions:

1. Download: Click the download link to save the .rar or .zip file(s) to your computer.

2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.

3. Install: Double-click on the .sims2pack file to install its contents to your game. The files will automatically be installed to the proper location(s).
  • You may want to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer instead of the game's installer, which will let you install sims and pets which may otherwise give errors about needing expansion packs. It also lets you choose what included content to install. Do NOT use Clean Installer to get around this error with lots and houses as that can cause your game to crash when attempting to use that lot. Get S2PCI here: Clean Installer Official Site.

It looks gorgeous and I wish I had a faster computer to play it, but I think 99.9% of players will find it too slow to play, and it crashed my computer when I loaded it because it was so huge.

I don't think hardware comes to play when you have something like this in the game, what comes to play is if the sims 2 engin can handle it.

Pretty nice. I built a 12 story building for one of my colleges, but it's way more space than I could ever use... left it as a landmark. In addition to hardware limitations, It's tough to play (and build) higher than the 8th-9th floor with the standard Maxis lot camera.

This is the epitome of PNP (Pretty, not Playable) lots, lol.

I'm curious, what your system specs are and how does the lot run on your comp? Also, wouldn't a 54-dorm room building spawn 53 npc dormies if you move one playable character into it?

Well that's why I made the stripped-down version available on my site - what you can also do is use the build mode cheat for dorms (boolprop dormSpecificToolsDisabled false), and then remove over half of the dorm room doors (the one I'm using personally has a max of 3 dorms in use per floor, and sometimes just has 2). I just put the full version on here so everyone can play around with it

All you really have to do is just replace dorm doors with regular doors until it runs good (I personally have about 20 rooms active instead of the full 54) - it's not really about the video card (I've got a mediocre Geforce4 MX 4000 card which I'll replace eventually) but about processor speed when the sim is running (it's much faster when paused, and speed really depends on how many people are active in the sim). My machine is an Athlon XP 2600+, 512mb RAM, and Win2k Pro.

Here's a direct link to the Tower Hall pics archive.

One nice pic of Tower Hall :

Now as for insanely big, if only the Sims 2 could have something even 1/4 the size of my Triton Center building in a simulator I'm making (Skyscraper 1.1 ). The building only has 142 floors (roof height 1732 feet/528 meters) lol - not much

Tall enough? lol (you can tell I like the steep angle shots like in the first pic above)

I just tried to put 8 students in this dorm. The loading took forever and I had to close my game with the task manager. Is it THAT big? :P
