by trench Posted 3rd Mar 2012 at 2:03 PM - Updated 3rd Mar 2012 at 6:53 PM by trench : Changes made. Noticed some minor mistakes on the lot and therefore I corrected them and updated the .rar file as well.

ALERT The attached pictures contain a spoiler of the floorplan of the basement! ALERT

A build that took me dozens of hours and half a year has finally been finished. Hogwarts is now avaible for your rich sims as a residential lot!

When I started the build, I was suprised that I could find none versions of Hogwarts made for The Sims 3 on any sites that I searched. Thus I decided to build it myself.

I wanted the castle to be as realistic as possible, but some elements of it had to be sacrificed for playability. However, I would say that I was able to cover the key elements of Hogwarts such as the Great hall, grand staircase and the common rooms. This version of Hogwarts also includes the greenhouses, a chamber of secrets of sorts and office of Dolored Umbridge which, in my opinion, are recognizeable. In order to reduce lag when playing on the lot and to avoid creating useless rooms there is some unused space on floors 2-4 which is there for purely decorative reasons to give the castle the desired shape.

I also decided to test tomb making in this build and trust me, it caused me a lot of grey hairs. The tombed objects are mainly hidden doors. Each of the common rooms has a hidden door and a switch to open the door on each side so that your sims don't have to push the door open every single time they want to pass it. Also there is a small tomb concerning the Chamber of Secrets and some hidden pathways on the lot. Also, a walk in basement is included (an accomplishment that caused me a lot trouble).

Placement

The recommened location for Hogwarts is in Bridgeport (see pic below). Since my game is not in English, I don't know the name of the address.

EDIT: Thanks to Yogi-Tea I can tell that the address is "7224 Cherrywood Drive".

The lot size is 60x60.

Details of the lot:

Kitchen
The Great hall
Entrance hall
Library

3 Offices
3 Livingrooms
6 Bedrooms (2x double bedrooms 4x single bedrooms with multiple beds)
7 Bathrooms

Custom content

I tried to use as little custom content as possible and thus there is only one thing that has to be downloaded.

CAST yourself a chimney! by armiel

When taking the pictures, I also had the following mod installed on my game:

Altered plants by HystericalParoxysm

I strongly recommend the mod since it improves some of the plants amazingly but it is not required. Thank you very much for both creators!

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file.
2. Select the .sims3pack file you got from extracting.
3. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
5. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Select the house icon, find the lot in the list, and tick the box next to it. Then press the Install button below the list.
6. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the lot to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
7. Run the game, and find your lot in Edit Town, in the premade lots bin.

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

Wow! The reason why no one made a Hogwarts yet is all the work that would go into it. You did it! Thank you for working so hard for a half a year.

I started building it half a year ago. I had to have long breaks from it due to not having time to spend on the computer. So, I didn't literally work on it every day or even every week for half an year

I've seen some Hogwarts builds online, some of them are pretty good - I like yours too. You really did a great job on this one.

I'd never dare to build something like that, I wouldn't even be able to finish this within a year... working every day on it. lol. I'm a slow builder - and I couldn't have resisted to make this a community lot with school rabbit hole and a tomb-like adventue included. Guess I'd build my whole life on that...

Not sure about the placement but I guess the location is called 7224 Cherrywood Drive in English - seems to be the same location I build my Santa's Secret Village on.

Sorry for the long post. I actually just wanted to say: great job - thank you for sharing.

Thank you! I saw that your Santa's Secret Village is indeed on the same lot and I will add the address on the placement tips.

Also no problem at all, the post wasn't too long

Hehe, I sure do. Especially the playtesting took me forever since my computer is pretty slow and it took a very long time to switch between play and buy modes. I'm glad that I got it finished eventually. On some phases it looked like it would never be finished.

Ok, so I'm having a bit of trouble finding the lot. I know I installed the file properly and extracted it to the correct place but it's not showing up in my game. Any ideas?

@hyldran0: Thanks! I'm glad that you managed to get the problem solved.

@vampiregirl2: If you follow the install instructions, the lot should show up in your game in edit town mode on the empty lots list. I would give you more specific instructions on this but I can't remember exactly where the list of empty (both EA and CC) lots are located and I don't have access to my game at the moment. It should work like any other lot.

I will post you a better guide to do this if it's still required once I get back home so I can check where the lot is located in my game.

This is so wonderful! I just want to leave a comment and tell you how much I appreciate your Hogwarts version. I have seen others that are aesthetically similar to the movie castle, some are really huge and some broken into smaller parts, even versions according to the books. Unlike the others, your version does not sacrifice function at all by the looks of the floor plan. It definitely looks like a bunch of HP sims can actually live in it!

I'm not playing sims 3 at the moment, but your creation just might convince me to switch for a while (again), so I can play with this castle.
