About
After a lot of sweat and toil I finally got these to look right in game. These are defaults for horse eyes as well as EA Sims eyes minus reflections. The latter can be used to troubleshoot if you so choose to.
THIS MAY NOT MODIFY EXISTING horses. Pre-existing sims may become attached to their specific textures. You can try clearing your cache or if you want to modify existing horses you must use either awesome mod or twallan's mastercontroller and edit the sim.

Troubleshooting
If in doubt clear your cache. To do this either do a search for *cache* files or use Sims 3 Dashboard and from the pulldown menu view cache files and clear all.
Be sure that you have updated to the latest patches and also that you confirm that your computer can handle extra load, and ensure that you are not using the integrated graphics card.
If your system can just barely run the Sims 3 on minimal settings you may freeze or not respond when editing eyes. It is likely munching or chewing on the file.
This does NOT in any way shape or form edit the UI and only replaces GEOM and IMG files.
If your horse eyes are too dark or light and you've already tried playing with the colors post here.

Installation
Choose only ONE zip file, either the fix or the defaults. Plop this in your packages folder, clear your cache using Sims 3 Dashboard and you're ready to go. Check to see how to install mods if this is your first time.

Don't forget to Thank the creator after downloading! Use the Thanks button located above the screenshots above.
Quick Guide:

1. Click the file listed on the Files tab to download the file to your computer.
2. Extract the zip, rar, or 7z file. Now you will have either a .package or a .sims3pack file.

For Package files:

1. Cut and paste the file into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages folder. If you do not already have this folder, you should read the full guide to Package files first: Sims 3:Installing Package Fileswiki, so you can make sure your game is fully patched and you have the correct Resource.cfg file.
2. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

For Sims3Pack files:

1. Cut and paste it into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder. If you do not have this folder yet, it is recommended that you open the game and then close it again so that this folder will be automatically created. Then you can place the .sims3pack into your Downloads folder.
2. Load the game's Launcher, and click on the Downloads tab. Find the item in the list and tick the box beside it. Then press the Install button below the list.
3. Wait for the installer to load, and it will install the content to the game. You will get a message letting you know when it's done.
4. Run the game, and find your content where the creator said it would be (build mode, buy mode, Create-a-Sim, etc.).

Extracting from RAR, ZIP, or 7z: You will need a special program for this. For Windows, we recommend 7-Zip and for Mac OSX, we recommend Keka. Both are free and safe to use.

I know horses have relatively dark eyes but it drove me insane that in-game, they looked souless. XD

Thank you so much!

The original horses' eyes are so ugly. Your defaults are much better! Thank you!

Well, that didn't work so well. :/ I'm now stuck in the "eye color" menu and need to restart my game because the UI refuses to accept any input.

What I did: selected pre-saved eye color -> went to edit color -> stuck in UI.

Update: I think this may be due to the interface changes with Seasons. I noticed my default interface looks different now that I've removed your mod. I take it this was made without Seasons?

This default should have nothing to do with color selection. If anything borks, the only thing you'll see is black soul-less eyes and it sounds more like a game issue.

Do you use any game starter? If so select only the base game and pets. http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=250555

Also I made this with ALL EPs installed and also used anygame starter and confirms it works in both.

I will test it once more.

UPDATE:
Tested. Works in any instance with or without all EPs so long as there is pets.

Did you confirm you are not running on integrated graphics? (that was a problem for me until I custom tuned it)

Here is a thread related to getting stuck in CAS
http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=485438

In any case if none of that checks out I'm going to go ahead and re-install my game.

There is something slightly odd going on with one of my families anyways that while could be seasons related may mean something borked during install.

Also note that these may NOT , I repeat, MAY NOT change horses you've already made.

I have several instances of several horses on my system. Those who used ea eyes stayed ea eyes. However I am adding a may in there now because it may change all your eyes to defaults on your game.

If you want to change horses you've already made you can edit them using a mod like mastercontroller or awesomemod.

Ooh, they're here. Finally my horses are going to look normal and not like some soulless zombie animals. Thank you.

Nice! Now people will stop bugging me to do this XD
If you want existing horses to be affected, I would say clearing the caches should do that, I know doing that helped for dog/cat eyes during testing times when I made mine, so maybe try that?
Again great job!!

@traelia
I doubt it. Your mods are very clean looking so I'm pretty sure people will still bug you for it

yw all. I am currently doing a system re-install to re-investigate if there are issues with my game build. I am also doing a repatch. If it all checks out then I take it I won't need to update this. We'll see though.

Thank you so much! :'D these are absolutely gorgeous! No more editing eyes in screenshots for me :D

EDIT 1 Gorgeous though these are it seems I have one little bug...
It seems the left eye is lighter than the right eye...

EDIT 2: I cleared my Caches and the problem went away. I thought about just deleting my last edit but I figure someone else may have the same issue. ^_^" These are just perfect! Thank you! :D

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I have been hoping someone would do this! Vanilla horse eyes give the horses a freaked out appearance to me, like they're scared or just mean spirited. Your mod gives my Sims horses the beautiful, gentle horse eyes I love.
Thank you so much!

This is fantastic. In real life i dislike horses terriably and with EA's bogeyed style souless look i never really made horses. With this though they look less evil to me so im defo downloading!

Glad someone finally got rid of the Vanilla eyes for horses!!
