New teen career: 10 After School Activities - 6 Music - 4 Sports

It always bothered me that teens can't have a hobby like being in a sport club or music academy.
With these careers they can.
It are 6 music careers and 4 sports career. The careers within each category only difference within the name.
So actually all music careers are the same (except for the name of the instrument) and all the sports careers are the same (except for the name of the sports)
I have made the descriptions this general because I don't have any experience with any of these sports or instruments. I don't want to write mistakes about these sports and instruments so the general approach was the best. If you really want other descriptions for a more detail approach, feel free to request and provide the information to me: http://bit.ly/lWvzo6

All careers (expensive and original) have different GUIDs. You can use them all together or apart in your game.

Update 2015-03-15
By request I added a more expensive version. So more wealthy families have something to spend their money on.
Level 1: -150
Level 2: -100
Level 3: 70 (to not earn it back right away)
Update 2014-13-12
I added some motive changes to fit gameplay more. Like when doing a sport or playing music fun rises and does not go down as before.

Justification As far as I know there are no after school activities for the sims 2 teens while there are a lot of people doing sport or playing an instrument after school. This would be a great addon. You don't earn money when you sport after school or go to music academy, but you pay (like in real life). It's not much and when reaching the highest level, you can earn it back easily. I don't know much (actually almost nothing) about sports or instruments so you won't read anything tactical about the different sports or details about the instrument. Just general descriptions. It's just the idea that the sims can have these after school activities that counts for me. So I just made it the way I see the career should be made. I can understand some of you will have another opinion. So feel free to request a new teen career here: http://bit.ly/lWvzo6

Thanks

I always wondered that this sort of activity was left out of teen lives. Thanks!

That´s a really great idea! I never liked the teen careers much, they felt too much like child labour to me, especially when there was no need for teen sims to work with the already generous adult wages.
Coult you perhaps add another option for boyscouts/girlscouts? The top level could be instructor at summer camp or something like this.

It's no problem to make another teen career, but I don't know anything about boyscouts or girlscouts.
Could you provide the information for me here (please, read the blogpost): http://bit.ly/lWvzo6

Thank You so much for this! I've always wanted some sort of After School Activity going on so this is perfect, only too bad child sims can't participate.

Could you fix this because it says "error" for me everytime I have a sim have any of these careers. It interrupts my game play so much that I had to delete it. Please, please fix it, this is a real great idea.

Could you give me more information? have you tried other teen careers of mine? Do they work? Have you tried the careers without any other download in your folder? could you send me a screenshot? Is there a problem with all careers or just one? What exactly happens when you get this error? You‘re the only one who gets an error so I need to know all this in order to fix it.

This is a really neat idea!
I'm using it now and I love that my Sims PAY for attending their music classes. It's great for those families who do not need the extra income but would like to keep their teens occupied and learning something else :D

I've used only the Piano activity so far, and I got a kinda strange dialog.
It said "Ignore", but none of the three options was ignoring it. One said something about "male", and the others I don't remember.
I cliked one button randomly, and the neighbourhood did not explode so I guess it was safe xD
But I thought I should let you know just in case you want to look into it.

That was probably a chancecard. I put the chance of happening on 0%. I seldom hear problems like that, but I'll look into it.
Thank you for notifying.

A quick question here - do these hobbies affect the motives of the teens intelligently? Raising fun and in sports' case lowering hygiene? Sounds like a nice mod to have, but I'd consider this quite vital for the gameplay.

I never adjusted such motives in a career. But when you test it you will see some motives drop as this is cloned from another career (I don't remember which one though).
Let me know what you find out and I will experiment with changing motives to fit the gameplay better.

I looked into this and I changed the motives for Social - Public, Hygiene, Energy, Fun and Comfort so it suits gameplay more.
I hope you like the changes I did.
Let me know if there is anything else you would like me to change.

Great idea and this is another thing EA/Maxis could have done with Sims 2 to make it better but no EA had to just drop it off in a deep hole.

BAD EA BAD.

This is a great idea! After-school stuff is usually rather expensive for (human) kids, so I'm glad it's not TOO realistic for my sims to handle, ha ha. What would even be cooler is, after so many music classes or soccer classes or whatever, they come home with body skill or creativity skill points in compensation for the time and money they're expending (just like real life, one would hope.) I have no idea is such a thing is even doable, I just thought of it now. Thanks, and great job!

Me again. I was just reading some of the posts above and I LOVE that idea about Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts! Wouldn't it be cool if they work their way toward earning talent badges in stuff like sewing or toy-making while they're at their classes? Just an idea. BTW, if you're interested in knowing more about Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, it's mainly a little after school club kids attend (usually starting at about age 6 or 7 up to 12 or whenever they lose interest, ha ha) where they learn practical skills like first-aid, how to built fires in the woods, tie different sorts of knots, mend things and learn campfire songs. Everyone had a uniform with a sash, and on the sash you would sew all the different badges you'd earned. They'd give you a little booklet showing all the badges you could earn and what you had to do to get them. We also participated in a lot of community-spirited outings like visiting the Old Folks' Home and serving tea to the senior citizens and stuff like that. The whole idea is to promote in children the idea of self-sufficiency while at the same time making them aware of their civic responsibilities. (Where I live, the girls join Brownies and the boys join Cubs, but it's the same idea as the Scout program.) So in reality, it is more a child-thing than a teen-thing, although teens can carry on with it up to age 18 I think. It would definitely be a great career for those civic-minded teens out there with a Family or Knowledge aspiration. They wouldn't earn any money of course, and it would cost a little bit, but they should get something out of it to be realistic. That's why I was thinking Talent Badges. (Also, to be realistic, the girls should learn sewing and the boys should learn something much more manly, like toy-making. At least that's how it was when I was young. I'm sure they've changed all that by now, at least I'd hope so, lol.) Sorry I didn't put all this in a PM. I didn't plan for it to be this long, it just sort of grew.

I'm afraid it's not possible to let a teen learn a talent badge by going to work.. It's not even possible to have a reward while doing a teen career. I don't think there's a way around that. But you can write the career if you want and let them have a chance to go to scouts.
