Updated April 17, 2019 - Version 10 is now available for download, updated for the latest game patch, 1.51.75 (April 16, 2018). Old versions are not compatible with the currrent game and have been removed.

Please remember to delete the old mod if you update.

Description

This mod for The Sims 4 fixes several bugs associated with violins and guitars. One of these bugs was discovered by a user of my Keep Instruments in Inventory mod, however the bugs are not caused by that mod it just made it easier to notice some of the games faults. These fixes are required for the base game only in order to obtain or fulfill several whims and actions that would otherwise not appear or work properly.

The following bugs are fixed:
  • Whims for playing the guitar or violin would not appear unless an instrument was on the lot - instruments in the inventory were not considered.
  • Whims for the violin could not be satisified by using a violin from the inventory, only one on the lot.
  • The whim to play a guitar at the lounge could not be satisifed by using a guitar from the inventory.
  • The whim to write a jingle could not be satisified by using a guitar from the inventory or any violin.
  • The pie menu choices for instruments in the inventory would not offer the write jingle action.
  • Version 2
    • Adds fixes for serenades, bring to tears and jam whims.
    • Fixes a bug which prevents musicians from writing jingles if they previously quit their job and rejoined the careeer. This is also fixed for the piano, despite keeping the mod name unchanged.
  • Version 3
    • Adds a fix for the bug which prevented cancelling the Write Song action properly.
  • Version 4
    • Fixes a bug which prevented the Play Guitar at Lounge whim from showing up while the sim is actually at the lounge. The text for the whim is odd in that suggest the sim should travel to the lounge (even though they are already there), but I didn't feel it was worth rewriting the text to fix that.
    • Adds in some EA fixes which may(?) address the issue of instruments being stuck in a sim's hands after they are done using it.
    • Changes some of the whim choice weighting so that sim's don't obsessively want to buy instruments all the time, but prefer to talk about them, play them and learn to play better - because if you have guitar skill you probably own a guitar already! The whim to buy an instrument will still show up, just five times less often.
    • Adds some tests for things in Outdoor Retreat - nothing really exciting. These changes should be ignored if you only have the base game.
  • Versions 5-8 don't add any fixes and were just updates for game patches.
  • Version 9
    • Added additional missing interactions to satisfy various play/jam whims
    • Writing a jingle on the portable keyboard satisfies the write jingle whim
    • Removed situation goals for whims which no longer exist
    • Write Song on the piano no longer requires a fix for being cancellable
    • Write Jingle no longer requires a fix for leaving/rejoining musician career
    • Write Jingle on guitar and violin fixed so they can be selected from an instrument in Sim's inventory
  • Version 10 - Fixed some XML syntax changes for April 16, 2019 game patch
  • Remember to delete the old version from your mod folder if you download a newer version!!

Installation Instructions

Just unzip the package file to your Mods folder as usual.

This mod may cause conflicts with other mods which change the violin or guitar playing whims or the jingle-writing action. Due to the wide variety of mods and sources for them, it is unlikely I will be able to help you with such a conflict. If there is a conflict, either one or both mods may fail to work properly.

This mod requires The Sims 4 to be patched to at least version 1.51.75 (April 16, 2019).

Thanks for the quick response to my 'bug report' in Keep Instruments in Inventory mod. Cheers!

Edit:
You've fixed most of the bugs I'd encountered in my game play.
Whim for Jam on a guitar has bug, too. Not sure it's fixed by you or not. I'll take a look!

Thanks!

No it does not, I'll look into it tomorrow.

Edit: OK, I've looked at it and that's a tough one! It would be easy enough to cure the symptom, but curing the disease itself might be more difficult. I'm still looking through the script code to see if curing the disease itself is necessary - just fixing the symptom may be adequate.

Version 2 adds fixes for serenade, bring to tears and jam whims. In addition the bug preventing jingle writing after quitting and rejoining the musician career branch is addressed.

This looks great. I have another problem involving the violin that I don't see listed here, so I was wondering if you might be able to have a look at it. When I tell my sim to write a song, then tell her to stop or do something else, she just keeps writing until one of her needs gets into the red and forces her to stop writing the song. I have had to reset the sim each time I want her to stop composing.. lol. I haven't used any of the other instruments yet, so I can't comment on whether it's isolated to the violin or affects others as well.

I must admit I haven't looked into why this happens like that, but you're right it can be annoying. There is an easier way to get them to stop than to reset the sim - click on the song-writing action to cancel it first and then queue another action (if you don't have something in particular you want them to do, just click the ground near them and tell them to go there). Once another action is queued, the song-writing cancellation should take effect. And yes, that affects all of the instruments.

Edit: Fixed and tested. Version 3 now includes a fix for this bug on all instruments. Remember to delete the old version when you update!
