If you have downloaded this file and tried to place it in your downloads folder, you may find that winter's book wants to be overwritten. This new file will prevent this clash from occuring. Thanks smithycpl for pointing this out

Alone now, you stumble across the burning rocks and smouldering cinders, intent on finding- and destroying- the Mutaeter, the demonic lord of Eyllisarnith. The burning lands are dark, illuminated only when seekers fly past, and the screams of tormented souls echo across the void...

The Emerald Gate is a short story piece that I wrote in year 11. Whilst rummaging through my old books I found it lodged in my english folder. Extracting it, I read it through and thought that I might be able to sculpt it into a career. And this is the result- The Emerald Gate.

The story revolves around a small village community, bound by sacred oath to protect the Emerald Gate, a Gate to... well, I'd advise that you play the career to find out.

This career is very much observation based- to survive the career, you need to read the job descriptions and chance cards very carefully- they give vital clues that will help you to pick the correct option to go for in later cards.

The pay for each level is low, but if you pick the correct options each time, you'll be rewarded with a large 60k bonus at the end.

The career levels go as follows-

The Opening Ceremony
The Demonic Arrival
The Final Warrior
Fighting in the Flames
A Hero Returns

(These are chapter titles I used in my real story)

Clothing
The clothing comes from Magick Modders members Helaene and Tiggerypum. As you can see, Michael had a great time modelling the male outfit for me (err... correction- picture not working, and I have no time to sort it out now- please bare with me)

Reward
The reward is courtesy of wintermuteai1- the book may appear a little useless in the picture, but reading the original thread will explain its powers a little more

Chance Cards complete
Will work with all EP's
You can have winter's book and my modded version without any problems, as they do not share the same guid.
To install, place all the files in your Downloads folder (bar the readme's)

I hope you enjoy- remember, reading is everything- the tiniest piece of info may mean the difference between life and death!

P.s. Dying means that you're sacked from the job- you don't actually die (heaven forbid!)

P.P.s. The spoiler file contains all the text used in the career- read if you don't mind spoiling the surprises

You must have the expansion or stuff packs listed below installed to use this custom content. Please see the post text for any exceptions.

Question - I used the Q-Express thing to DL this.. and it didn't seem to show the readme file. Is there anyway you could upload a zip file with just that? Or.. upload it to a free server or something lol .. Email me it even :P

Or is there anyway for me to find the readme file? I don't have any other program that will do .rar's.

Thanks for any help >.<

Hey, protecting the world from vicious monsters that eminate from an emerald gate is a full time job! Heck, my dad does it everyday!

Hiya,

I've played this custom career from start to end.. When the final card "promotion" finally shows up (Takes a very long time before it will show even tho I have all the requirements needed to progress to the next stage) and my Sim has won the battle the next stage that happens is that The Sim loses the job and ends up with a "fired from job" memory.. At the end of the career shouldn't the sim receive an option to retire instead of instant dismissal?

I have all the eps installed (except for Family Fun Stuff) and haven't had any problems with the careers before..

Got any ideas on what could be happening?

Thanks!

christy, this move is deliberate. To add a sense of realism to the career, I decided that upon completion, you would leave the job beheind. The fired memory is something that is an annoyance- I had an extensive talk with Echo about preventing this from occuring. Careers are very complex in their coding, and trying to alter memory formation is a tough buisness, even for the likes of Echo and Numenor. So, I'm afraid the fired memory has to stick.

Hope I've explained this ok,

Best regards,
Superfly

I had the same problem as the other person. I NEVER got a chance card, not even at the end, and every time I got promoted it said "You have been promoted to !" (or something similar). I also did not get fired at the end, if that matters. I have all of the expansions installed, but none of the stuff packs.

Thanks for all the work you put into this - hope this helps.

I played this in game only problem I found was in University; it replaced a couple of majors. Has anyone else reported this?

I confess I just downloaded this last night and haven't played it yet, but my thoughts on the forced fire - would it be possible, instead, to have a final promotion upon completion of the quest line to a job title like "Once Hero of Emerald Gate" or something similar, with a promotion bonus of whatever reward (if any) and an income of 0 or very few Simoleans? Players could then choose to have their Sims retire, quit the job and go into a different career line, or stay in this position that earns them little or no money but has, say, evening hours when they go to the local pub to regale folks with their past deeds, or spend afternoons teaching the local children about their duty to the continued stewardship of Emerald Gate. It'd avoid the fired memory and, to me, hold true to the probable fate of a fantasy hero when the heroics are done with - they either move on with their lives or teach the lessons they learned to those coming after (or, if you're cynical, continually relive their glory days until everyone within a mile starts looking for someplace else to be the moment this person opens their mouth).

Is it feasable? And would it fit with your concept of the story?
