The Story-
Trafalgar Ward is an imaginary neighborhood in London that I invented for the purposes of this contest. Although these buildings don't actually exist anywhere, they were all inspired by buildings that existed in and around London during the reign of Queen Victoria. This neighborhood is rather varied in its inhabitants, and represents many different walks of life. I took a few liberties here and there (there wasn't really a whole lot I could do about the asphalt streets and Maxis phone booths ), but for the most part I attempted to be as historically accurate as possible.

A Few Quick Notes-
First of all, DON'T be intimidated by the custom content list. That's the collective list for all of the lots combined, including a number of items that I had to cite more than once. With one or two exceptions, the lots are not overly heavy custom content wise, and few of the lots don't have any custom content at all.

That being said, there are a few items that I need to address. The majority of these lots make use of phoenix_phaerie's fantastic window sets. However, they won't show up properly in your game unless you have one particular window (which is where all of the textures are drawn from). Please follow this link to download the necessary window.

Also, if you choose to download the second set of terraced houses, you may also need to download Lethe's Victorian Greenhouse Set. Her set also uses a repository color technique, and won't show up properly unless you have the item that the textures are drawn from.

And finally: as I was packaging all of these lots in the wee hours of the night, I realized that I may have made a mistake with one of the sets of recolors. This is only a nitpicky little thing, and it won't impact your gameplay one way or another... but, if you want the full range of glass recolors that I used on some of Holy Simoly's 'Edwardian Elegance' doors, then you'll want to download the recolors of the door available here. Again, this has no effect on your gameplay whatsoever--but I may have a accidentally left out a recolor or two, and downloading these can potentially make your game slightly prettier.

Aaannd.... onward!

Although the pictures somehow got jumbled up after I uploaded them, I have them numbered so that you can match them up with their names (and that way you'll know what you're downloading :D).

Wait... I lied. One more thing. For the purposes of making sure that you all continue to be creative, these buildings have been left unfurnished. The houses are totally liveable, and with the exception of some the largest buildings, the community lots are all set for you to open up a business. But you'll have to add some furniture first. :P

The Bodewell Workhouse for Able-Bodied Men and Women- #1
Built in an area where the lines between rural and urban begin to blur, this workhouse provides employment opportunities for some of London's poorest inhabitants. This particular workhouse has a small orchard and an area for planting crops, as well an exercise yard near the gate. Although the workers' dormitories upstairs are certainly a far cry from some of the slums of London, they pale in comparison to the Master's luxurious quarters on the ground floor.

Carroway Department Store- #2
After decades of running a series of successful dry goods stores, Nicholas Carroway finally scraped together enough money to build the department store of his dreams. Soaring far above anything else in Trafalgar Ward, the tower at the front of the store is sure to catch any passerby's attention. Originally open to the public as an observation deck, the stairs to the tower were ultimately removed due to the ever-growing number of unhappy people who committed suicide by leaping over the guardrail.

Still, despite its dark reputation, the locals continue to insist that Carroway offers the best deals in town.

(Note: Because of its size, this building is currently nothing more than a shell. If you wish to use this as more than a neighborhood decoration, I would recommend only furnishing the first few floors, unless you have a phenomenal computer.)

Deering Park- #3
Upon approaching its famed Victory Gate, visitors to Deering Park will immediately understand why it is one of London's most renowned patches of greenery. Still, despite its idyllic beauty, you would be wise to avoid the park after sunset. The winding path is only dimly lit, and there are rumors of a murderous gentleman lurking in the shrubbery...

The Douglas Memorial Monument #4
No one is entirely sure who Douglas is, or whether Douglas was his first name or his last. But either way, he must have done something remarkable--look at the size of that monument!

(Note: You will need to download dincer's Venus Milo statue, available here under the Anatolian Civilizations page.)

Ministry of Beauracracy- #5
London is famous for having a ministry for every possible aspect of life--and when someone realized that the Beauracrats were the ones keeping the ministries running, they built a ministry for them, too. This is circular logic at its finest, and is intimidating enough to keep the residents of Trafalgar Ward in check.

(Note: This building is also currently a shell because of its size. I would only recommend converting this into a useable lot if you think your computer can handle it.)

Parliamentary Square- #6
This is a simple plaza built to flank the sides of a government building. Its reflecting pools add a dramatic touch to any structure, and the complete lack of entertainment at the plaza should be enough to encourage your dilly-dallying Sims to get back to work in their impressive government buildings.

Peabody Tenements: Model Housing for the Poor #7
George Peabody was an American banker who made his fortune in London, and decided to give a little of it back to the city. He constructed a number of tenements for the poor, and founded the Peabody Institute and Peabody Trust. For more information on George Peabody, click here.

These particular tenements are fairly typical--an ideal looking set of brick buildings with neat rows of windows and tidy columns of trees, leaving the outside world completely oblivious to the crowded conditions and twisting series of old-wooden walkways within.

Peddlers' Row- #8
This is a fairly typical row of shops, and there is nothing overly remarkable about any of them. Perhaps the most interesting feature resides on the back of the law office (the building in the middle), the only fire escape in Trafalgar Ward.

(Note: You will need to download dincer's Venus Milo statue, available here under the Anatolian Civilizations page.)

Society of Royal Persons- #9
If you ask anyone what goes on within the walls of the Society of Royal Persons, they will simply smile knowingly and say that they couldn't possibly tell you. This is, of course, because they actually have no idea what goes on behind this building's very large and very locked doors--but you'll never get anyone to admit that.

Terraced Houses- #10
Houses like these were becoming increasingly common during Victoria's reign, and were a staple of the middle class. These houses are designed for somewhat smaller families, and are equipped with their own private gardens and lavatories--not in the same place though, mind you.

Terraced Houses II- #11
These houses were built in the same style as the previous set of rowhouses, and are meant to be placed next to each other. Their yards will link together, and a small alleyway complete with barrels and storage sacks will form between them. These houses can also be mixed and matched, and you could line a whole street with them if you really wanted to.

Shabby Rowhouse- #12
These houses have certainly seen better days... their gardens are a disaster, and some previous landlord had the brilliant idea to hide the houses' disrepair under a layer of wooden shingles. The shingles have started to fall apart as well, and are almost certainly a fire hazard waiting to happen. Still, the inside is in relatively good condition, and the yards could be fixed up with a little bit of elbow grease.

(Yes, anyone who noticed that these look remarkably similar to my interpretation of Number 12, Grimmauld Place may award themselves 10 points.)

The Grey Lady Club- #13

[There] is no colour more noble... than a stately grey.

~Lady Isadore Mentmore (The Grey Lady)

Built in honor of the late Lady Mentmore, this premiere secret society plays host to some of London's most brilliant minds.

(Note: You will need to download dincer's Venus Milo statue, available here under the Anatolian Civilizations page.)

Darlington & Darroway Pub- #14
I ran out of space when I was uploading pictures, but you can click here and here to get a better idea of what this place looks like.

The pub is pretty standard as far as respectable drinking establishments go, and there's plenty of vacant space upstairs if you'd like to open up an inn or a boarding house.

(Note: You will need to download dincer's whiskey set, available here near the bottom of the Sets 1 page.)
