Yep I didn't think you could block it like that too but Sims only need the first two squares to use. I can't believe I forgot a sink though! I might repost it later.

I didn't even notice the lack of a kitchen sink until someone mentioned it. Of course players could always purchase a dishwasher in-game so that the single counter could remain usable for food preparation.
