Night World/Magic Careers

The two Night World careers are based off of LJ Smith’s Night World books. Circle Daybreak is a group that wants supernaturals and humans to live in harmony, while Circle Midnight refers only to dark witches in the books, but I’ve extended the Circle Midnight career here to encompass all baddie supernaturals as well.

The last career, Magic and Witchery, is a more generic track meant for witches. It’s based both off of descriptions of witchcraft in the Night World books as well as witchcraft in the Secret Circle trilogy (and a track thrown in from the Dark Visions books as well.) It would probably work well for generic witches even if you’re not familiar with the books I’m talking about. Unlike most of my teen careers, the teen version of this career would also make sense for elders.

Circle Daybreak
Icon: Rose
Focused Skills: Charisma, Logic, Body, Cleaning
Reward: Resurrect-o-Nomitron
Levels: Freelance Lancer, Damned Daybreaker, Foster Parent, Community Outreach, Scroll Searcher, Vampire Hunter, Circle Daybreak Strike Team, Wild Power Protector, Circle Daybreak Council, Lord/Lady of Circle Daybreak
Top Salary:
Notes: Based off of LJ Smith’s Night World series. Completely ignores the fanficcy post-apocalypse stories she’s got on her website, because I’m really not getting a good feeling about Strange Fate based on that writing.

Level 1: Freelance Lancer
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 8 pm-4 am
Salary: 120
Description: As someone who knows how remorseless, cruel, and powerful the supernatural beings of the Night World can be, you've begun hunting them down, one by one. You'll have to work on your Body skill if you want to stay alive - and being able to find some friends who share your beliefs wouldn't hurt, either.

Level 2: Damned Daybreaker
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 9 am-4 pm
Salary: 177
Description: One of your friends revealed to you the truth about the Night World, and now you know that not all Night People are evil. They've convinced you to join Circle Daybreak, an organization led by humans and supernaturals who hope to usher in a new age by working together. They're a little soft, but you've decided to help them any way you can. At the very least, they can teach you a few things.

Level 3: Foster Parent
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 8 am-3 pm
Salary: 213
Description: Since the Night World authorities prohibit humans from even knowing about the Night World, the half-breed children that occasionally result from romances between humans and Night People aren't welcome there. Circle Daybreak takes in these children, saving them from ritual execution, and you've been ordered to help them. Just beware: a half-panther, half-human little girl can be adorably cute, but even kittens have claws.

Level 4: Community Outreach
Workdays: M W Th F Sa
Hours: 2 pm-10 pm
Salary: 405
Description: Now that you know more about the Night World, you've been tasked with spreading the word to others. From vampire hunters to lost witches, you track them down and try to get them to join Circle Daybreak. You'll need good Charisma skills to make any headway.

Level 5: Scroll Searcher
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 8 am-3 pm
Salary: 762
Description: Your next assignment is to be a researcher, studying old scrolls, books, and prophecies in the hopes that you can discover something more about the coming apocalypse. Be careful not to overlook anything; Circle Daybreak needs all the help it can get if it's going to find the Wild Powers before the Night World Council does.

Level 6: Vampire Hunter
Workdays: T W Th F Sa
Hours: 9 pm-4 am
Salary: 923
Description: Sitting in a library all day got too tedious for you, so you asked for a more difficult assignment. You got it: although you call yourself a "vampire hunter," you really just hunt down evil people of all species: werewolves and vampires who prey on humans, shapeshifters who prey on good witches, and even humans who prey on innocent shapeshifters and vampires. Make sure to keep up that Body skill if you don't want to become prey yourself.

Level 7: Circle Daybreak Strike Team
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 3 pm-9 pm
Salary: 1389
Description: You still consider yourself "just a grunt," but in reality, you're a trusted soldier in Circle Daybreak's growing army. As part of a specially composed strike team that features members of each of the Night World's species, you do the bidding of the Lord and Lady of Circle Daybreak. Work on your Body skill, and you might just be entrusted with the most important mission of all.

Level 8: Wild Power Protector
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 11 am-5 pm
Salary: 1668
Description: Circle Daybreak has managed to find another Wild Power, and it's your job to protect them. There's a safehouse established especially for Wild Powers and their loved ones, with witch-cast wards surrounding the building, but there's always the chance of discovery, which is where you come in. Just hope you don't have to lay down your life to protect the only people who can ward off the apocalypse!

Level 9: Circle Daybreak Council
Workdays: Th F Sa Su
Hours: 10 am-2 pm
Salary: 2509
Description: You've grown important enough to Circle Daybreak that the original Lord of Circle Daybreak himself, Thierry Descouedres, invited you to join the governing body of Circle Daybreak. With a group of others like yourself, you make plans for the future.

Level 10: Lord/Lady of Circle Daybreak
Workdays: M T W Th
Hours: 10 am-2 pm
Salary: 3544
Description: Congratulations! You've reached the absolute pinnacle of power, and are officially a Lord of Circle Daybreak. Given your humble origins, it's rather disconcerting how most Daybreakers look at you: you're treated like royalty, at least within the small confines of Circle Daybreak itself. Keep up the fight against supernatural darkness and human ignorance!

Circle Midnight
Icon: Crescent Moon
Focused Skills: Body, Charisma, Logic, Cleaning
Reward: Resurrect-o-Nomitron
Levels: Hired Thug, Gang Leader, Enclave Tracker, Slave Trader, Local Leader, Community Liaison, Rogue Operator, Dark Side Seducer/Seductress, Night World Council, Lord/Lady of the Night World
Top Salary:
Notes: I know that, in the books, Circle Midnight is the darker circle of witches only, but there aren’t enough career tracks to have separate (good and bad) vampire, ‘shifter, werewolf, and witch careers, so this should suit all your evil supernaturals. Also, lots of working at night for this one – you are, after all, a part of the Night World.

Level 1: Hired Thug
Workdays: T W Th F Sa
Hours: 8 pm-4 am
Salary: 127
Description: You've been hired by a vampire to serve as a bouncer at one of the Night World's most popular clubs, the Black Iris. Work on your Body skill and you may be able to move up in the world.

Level 2: Gang Leader
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 9 pm-4 am
Salary: 204
Description: Striking out on your own, you've established yourself as the leader of a small supernatural gang. You hunt together, toy with humans for sport, and flaunt with the idea of breaking Night World Law (though in reality, you know the Council could crush you like a bug if it wanted.) Keep working on that Body skill if you hope to gain more power - in the circles you run in, strength is what counts.

Level 3: Enclave Tracker
Workdays: M T Th F Sa
Hours: 10 am-6 pm
Salary: 371
Description: A member of the Redfern family approached you with a special contract. Several vampire girls have run away from the family enclave near Boston, and they want them tracked down quickly and quietly, before their absence becomes known. They also want the girls back safely, so you'll have to learn to act with more finesse if you hope to succeed.

Level 4: Slave Trader
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 9 pm-5 am
Salary: 768
Description: Feeling a little rebellious, you decide to go into an activity that's been officially condemned by the Night World Council itself: the human slave trade. Providing victims for vampires, werewolves, and occasionally even the Circle Midnight witch who needs blood for her more sinister spells, you don't ask too many questions about what you do, and try not to think about the fates of the runaways you're selling. After all, you're a member of the Night World, and humans are vermin.

Level 5: Local Leader
Workdays: M W Th F Sa
Hours: 6 pm-1 am
Salary: 901
Description: Feeling a little heat from the Council, you decided to back off on the more flagrantly illegal activities in your repertoire. Instead, you find you've become a community leader of sorts, participating wholeheartedly in Night World activities with members of your own species. Work on making friends; that's key to moving up in the world.

Level 6: Community Liaison
Workdays: T Th F Sa Su
Hours: 5 pm-12 am
Salary: 984
Description: You've branched out from your initial activities; now, you're working on forging alliances between the different species of Night People, 'shifters, werewolves, vampires (both lamia and made vampires), and witches of both Circle Midnight and Circle Twilight. After all, you've heard rumors the apocalypse is coming, and if that's true, you'll need all the friends you can get...

Level 7: Rogue Operator
Workdays: T W Th F Sa
Hours: 9 pm-3 am
Salary: 1327
Description: Wanting to find out more about the hints of an impending apocalypse, you've struck out on your own, relying on no one and nothing but yourself. You're going to have to keep your skills finely honed if you want to unravel the deepest secrets of the Night World without becoming prey.

Level 8: Dark Side Seducer/Seductress
Workdays: T W Th F Sa
Hours: 9 pm-2 am
Salary: 1526
Description: A mysterious figure, known only to you as "a witch who isn't a witch," filled you in on what's been going on and offered you an alliance. You took it, and now your duty is to convert every Night Person you come across to the side of darkness. If an apocalypse is coming, the Night People are going to be better-suited at turning it to their advantage than the humans: while numerous, puny humans are weak, and their only defenders are the pusillanimous cowards of Circle Daybreak.

Level 9: Night World Council
Workdays: M T W Th
Hours: 6 pm-11 pm
Salary:
Description: Your alliance has served you well: it's set you up as a figure of such power that the Night World Council officially offered you a place in its governing body. As a member of the Night World Council, you prepare for the coming apocalypse and work to ensure that it dooms humanity to a future as the slaves and prey of a resurgent Night World. Build your skills and your Power to gain domination over the Council itself.

Level 10: Lord/Lady of the Night World
Workdays: W Th F Sa
Hours: 9 pm-1 am
Salary: 4005
Description: Your power is vast, and even the Night World Council cowers at your feet. As a Lord of the Night World, you rule with an iron fist. Vampires, shapeshifters, and witches all line up to serve you, while even the dragons look upon you as an ally, not as lunch. Humanity will tremble at your feet; all you need to do is destroy Circle Daybreak and its Wild Powers, and your victory will be complete.

Magic and Witchery
Icon: Pentagram
Focused Skills: Cooking, Creativity, Charisma, Cleaning
Reward: Resurrect-o-Nomitron
Levels: Animal Expert, Chanter, Herb Expert, Amulet Maker, Astral Projectionist, Crystal Maven, Rune Reader, Spirit Summoner, Spellbook Keeper, Coven Leader
Top Salary: 1402
Notes: Based lightly off of LJ Smith’s Secret Circle books, but meant to be something all my generically witchy sims can use. Requires 12 friends because a coven is composed of 13 people (of which your Sim is one.)

Level 1: Animal Expert
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 8 am-4 pm
Salary: 135
Description: Congratulations upon your induction into a circle of witches. This is an ancient coven, and your knowledge is built upon the generations upon generations who've come before. Your first position within the circle is that of resident animal expert: although live familiars were outlawed during the Burning Times, someone still has to study both live animals and the purposes of animal products in spells, and that person is you. Improve your Charisma and Creativity if you hope for something better.

Level 2: Chanter
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 1 pm-8 pm
Salary: 221
Description: As a chanter, you can use song, ancient languages, or even simple words spoken in the correct rhythm to cast spells. A love of music is a must for this specialty. If you're not feeling the beat, work on your Cooking skills to try another specialty.

Level 3: Herb Expert
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 9 am-4 pm
Salary: 369
Description: As an herb expert, you know which magical and mundane plants can be safely combined, how to put together an elixir or a potion that's more potent than any spoken spell, and how to put a curse on the people who laugh at you and your garden full of weeds. You believe that the natural world will speak to you, if you're just willing to listen. But if you're deaf to the music of the plants, gaining some Creativity might help you move on to something better...

Level 4: Amulet Maker
Workdays: M Th F Sa Su
Hours: 10 am-4 pm
Salary: 547
Description: As an amulet maker, you design all sorts of magical jewelry. This requires a good deal of creative skill as well as arcane knowledge, as you take pride in making jewelry that's both beautiful and useful. Your talent allows you to imbue items with a magical essence, making them into the perfect tools for spell-casting while also keeping you safe from all sorts of magically-induced harm.

Level 5: Astral Projectionist
Workdays: M W Th F Sa
Hours: 6 pm-1 am
Salary: 662
Description: Let your mind do the walking...you sit back, relax, and let your mind roam where it will. You could be sitting in your house in California and see all the way to the East Coast (or even further, if you're very talented!) This talent is useful for finding old friends, figuring out what your enemies are doing, and acquiring all sorts of information. Just be careful that you don't get labeled as the sneaky spying sort - this kind of power has to be used wisely, if at all.

Level 6: Crystal Maven
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 10 am-4 pm
Salary: 804
Description: Although you first started studying gems when you studied amulet making, now it's time to expand your skills exponentially. As a crystal maven, you know all there is to know about gemstones, semiprecious stones, and even plain old rocks. Everything from sand (pulverized rock) to boulders (really big rocks) falls within your purview, and you know the magical properties of each and every kind of stone there is.

Level 7: Rune Reader
Workdays: M T W Th F
Hours: 10 am-4 pm
Salary: 909
Description: As a rune reader, you specialize in the study of ancient languages, particularly in those that have magical properties. Norse runes, Celtic script, Etruscan inscriptions, Greek scrolls: all are exceedingly useful, and even a single rune etched with the proper tools and invoked in the right way can be incredibly powerful.

Level 8: Spirit Summoner
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 11 pm-5 am
Salary: 1056
Description: As a spirit summoner, you can call forth the spirits of the deceased in order to ask them for advice, commune with them, or even to try to get them to possess or haunt someone (if you're a malevolent witch, that is.) Just make sure that, whatever spirit you call forth, you have the power to put them back where they came from: displaced spirits don't tend to be happy when their peace is disturbed by upstart witches.

Level 9: Elemental Magic Expert
Workdays: M T W Th
Hours: 10 am-3 pm
Salary: 1113
Description: You can call upon Earth, Air, Water, and Fire to do your bidding: summoning up an earthquake from the ground, a raging fire from a spark, a whirlwind from a breeze, or a tidal wave from the gentle lapping of the tides. Elemental magic is powerful, tapping into the fundamental forces of the world: make sure that you’re the one controlling it, instead of the other way around.

Level 10: Coven Leader
Workdays: Th F Sa Su
Hours: 6 pm-11 pm
Salary: 1402
Description: The rest of your coven decided that you were the most powerful witch of them all, and has elected you to lead them. As coven leader, you're responsible for leading all meetings of your circle, conducting ceremonies, and disciplining any members who stray from your circle's code of conduct. You also have great influence in deciding who is initiated into your coven, and which areas of study you'll pursue. It's a position you'll hold for the rest of your life (unless you abuse your privileges, so remember to stay true to the principles that got you this far!)

Magic and Witchery Teen Career

Level 1: Arcane Explorer
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 3 pm-6 pm
Salary: 54
Description: You've found some dusty old tomes in your attic that seem to contain some magical spells. Working alone, you can't do much, but if you start reading, you could find a simpler spell or two to attempt.

Level 2: Spell Experimenter
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 3 pm-6 pm
Salary: 76
Description: You dabble in trying to improve upon the spells you've found while studying those books from your attic. You'll need a good deal of Creativity skill if you hope to succeed, so be patient and make sure to record all your results!

Level 3: Keeper of the Book of Shadows
Workdays: W Th F Sa Su
Hours: 3 pm-6 pm
Salary: 113
Description: Inspired by the research you've done and experiments you've tried, you've begun a Book of Shadows of your own, a magical spellbook listing new and improved ways to perform different types of magic. If you're lucky, maybe a coven will notice you.
