So what happens if you ask a playable to become a roommate? Do they then become a townie? If not, how do you play them?

If you ask them and you have good relationship score, then they will become your roommates and will be added to your household as roommates/pets (same thing).
I don't know exactly what happens when you kick them out later, I'll test and post back here.

Default Question?
Does it work for young adults to ask them to be a roomie in main neighborhood without them aging to adult on move in?

I think it should, if you use Squinge's Mega College Pack
Just to be sure: do you mean roommates (apartments) or dormies (dorms)?)

Residents in regular residential lots that have a YA visitor wanting the YA to be a roommate. Nevermind, I saw it was only for Apartments

Check out Squinge's Mega College Pack. I assume it's just what you want

I'm afraid Roommates are for Apartment Life EP only, so this mod's also for AL.

Hmm, seems like a useful mod. There are a ton of Sims I've wanting to add as roommates in the past that I haven't been able to. That neighborhood may be gone now but this mod will make my new neighborhood all the better.

Does this also work on teenage townies? I'd love my teenager who moved out into his own apartment to be able to invite his Downtownie Tricou friends to be roommates.
