Right now, I'm creating a community college lot. I'm finding that my Sims are having trouble performing with their musical instruments on lots with a lectern. They will play just fine, but if you stop the action, they stay right where they are. You can't move them unless you quit the lot without saving. Hobby Instructors seem to be particularly fascinated with these Sims.

If you delete the lectern, you may still have the problem. I found I had to bulldoze the lot. Fortunately, I saved a prototype without the lectern first.
Sorry about these issues. I think you are referring to a college dorm lot? I will have to try and recreate this problem at some point.

Not exactly. I'm making a main hood college and using the Squnige /Chaavik mod to allow Sims to turn YA and go to that college. No dorms.

It's not a big thing. One just might want to put a music room on a different lot. It might work just fine in a regular Uni setting. It really would be a rare hassle for players, and almost no one will be affected by this. Just a heads-up if anyone else intends to do this. Back up your hood, just in case.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

I am not able to duplicate your configuration. I did do extensive testing today with both Opportunity Mics and musical performers in both college residential and community lots. Both the musicians and those involved with the Opportunity Mics worked without delays, stalls or errors. However, I did find three unrelated bugs with the Mics which are fixed in today's release, as detailed below.

BUGFIX June 26, 2016: Boom Mic, Health Mic & Sports Mic

1) This release corrects a major bug with the Boom Mic that made it unusable.

2) This release also removes a jump bug that affected both the Health Mic & Sports Mic after about an hour of use.

Please download sdOpportunityLectern_WithMics.zip for the updates.

Well, it could be some sort of mod configuration on my part. That's the annoying thing about different mods. Sometimes. two or more seemingly-unrelated ones just don't play nicely. And while reporting such things, one cannot simply point and say, "This mod caused this!" I should have better emphasized that this happened in MY game. It may be fine for everyone else.

Interesting to see the testing bore some fruit unrelated to the original problem, though. I still really enjoy using your lecterns.

Thanks to ALL free-site creators, admins and mods.

Thank you gazania, I appreciate the encouragement.

As for those errors, they must have crept in with the Coffee Table update.

UPDATE August 20, 2016: Improved Speaker & Listener Routing

1) Sims who are already sitting in a good location to speak at the mic or listen to the talk will no longer jump up and attempt to find another seat.

2) Children will not be Invited to speak at the mic, but they can still do so autonomously or as playable Sims.

3) Invited speakers are now consistently announced by full name.

Please download sdOpportunityLectern_WithMics.zip for the updates.

College & Grade School ACCREDITED December 10th, 2016:

a) With the major upgrade, all the microphones in the set are now University and grade school accredited, meaning that school and college students will earn grade points while they attend the talks. Their educational progress will be displayed at the beginning and end of each tutorial session.

b) To support this more serious purpose, a proper dress code is now enforced for all speakers - no more blunders with pajamas or swimsuits!

c) Speakers who teach autonomously are now more likely to stay on the job.

d) The placement rules for the Lectern are changed to prevent the back of the object (where the Sim stands) from being occupied, but to allow the front to be placed next to a railing such as might exist on a raised stage.

e) A bug that caused listeners not to use audience seating has been fixed. My thanks to gazania for confirming this problem.

f) In checking for valid audience seating, bar stools are now approved for use.

g) The "Frontal Tapestry for the Opportunity Lectern" is being upgraded to be an Opportunity Controller, so the Tapestry and its supporting recolours have been deleted from this thread and will be re-released with The Sims 2 Opportunity Pack Core Files project.

Please download sdOpportunityLectern_WithMics.zip for the updates.

UPDATE December 16th, 2016: Routing Improvement

Enthusiastic listeners will now go to the front of the class to attend the talk, rather than the rear.

@Sophie-David, These are beyond wonderful, but there are so many pieces that I think I may not have found all of them, so, sorry if this is answered somewhere ... is there a way I can turn off all the notifications for the listeners? They come fast and furious when I'm really just trying to make it look like we are having a quiet little country church service.

Thank you, Sunradar. Unfortunately no, there is no way to turn off the notifications - but I think they only apply to the current family and not to guests on the lot. Some of the notifications are built-in to the program, and for consistency I added notifications for those things that weren't. For taking screenshots each message can be closed manually before capturing the screen. But yes the notifications can be overwhelming at times!

Hi, again, @Sophie-David. I have been tweaking this just for my own use (I really hope you don't mind) so that it will work well autonomously to run this little country church I have, and I've just about gotten rid of the notifications, admittedly in a rather hamfisted way, by just going into SimPE and deleting them, but there are a couple that I cannot find. One is an interest in Film and Literature and the other is something about the A+. [For now, I solved the A+ one just by not inviting any school-age sims to the meeting - did I mention ham-fisted? ] Are you saying that the game itself had these notifications? Any idea where they are?

@Sophie-David Could an option theoretically be added to the lectern to enable free teaching? The mandatory pay tuition seems to be the only thing that stops this set working in school systems such as Inges (guessing because the children become part of the household when you select 'start school'?). Might be completely off though.

I don't mind you changing things for your own use, Sunrader. You can determine if the notifications are built-in by looking through the "Dialogue, Speech" Text List resource. I coded-in the Interest notifications. The Enthusiasm notifications are built-in to FreeTime (or later). I confess I have no interest in removing any notifications from these objects.

I've never used Inge's school system. Yes, if the children temporarily become part of the household then they would have to pay for tuition. I'm surprised that the children don't simply pay the teacher for the tuition, that they don't have the money for that?

Could someone explain to me very simply the difference between this set and the reading desk set, and how to use the microphones versus the books?

I have a university campus that I've built and would like the sims enrolled in the university subhood to be able to attend classes with professors of my choosing in order to gain skillpoints.

I'm just confused about what's happening - I have the reading desk in place, and using the invite function simply grabs a sim (seemingly at random) from my playables. That sim then stands there doing nothing. There's no lecture, no listening sims, and eventually the invited lecturer gets bored and leaves. I've got a reading stand with a book on it - what am I doing wrong?
