This is NOT a mod!!! This DOES NOT go into your Mods folder!!!

This is for MACS ONLY!!! This is NOT for PC!!!

Attention Mac users!! Have y'all ever wanted an easier way to remove those annoying special characters from file names?? Do you have 7458675846 GB of mods and CC and want to make your game run a bit faster?? If you answered "yes" to either of those questions, then I have the solution for you. Introducing my new and improved Remove Characters V2 Automator App.

If you're wondering what in the world is this Automator thing, it's an app that already comes on your Mac (YAY!! No other software to download!!!). Automator lets you develop routines to make your life easier, like this app!

Remove Characters V2 is an Automator routine that deletes special characters from file name, so you don't have to do it manually. This version adds removal of more special characters than BlueBellFlora's original version.

Removes the following special characters from any file:

Spaces [] () {} - @ # & _ ' " + ! ,

How To Use:

1. Unzip file
2. Place Remove Characters V2 app in your Dock
3. Drag and drop your files on top of the app in your Dock.
4. You'll see a gear at the task bar on top of your screen. You'll also hear a sound. This lets you know that the app is working.
5. Voila ! Your file now has no more special characters

I appreciate that there is finally something created for Mac users, but I am confused. The instructions say to drag the file onto the app in the dock. What file am I dragging exactly?

Sorry for the late reply!!! You drag the file from which you're removing characters from the file name.

For example:

You download a mod named "Sims_Mod_V3" and you want to remove the "_" characters. Drag that file from your Downloads folder on the Dock (or the Desktop or the Finder - wherever you access your Downloads folder) to the Remove Characters App on your Dock. I keep my Downloads folder pinned to my Dock and use the Fan view option. I click on the Downloads folder and then drag whichever file I need right on top of the Remove Characters App icon.

I hope this explanation helps!

I honestly don't know if this automator had anything to do with it (which is why I'm keeping it a "thanks" post, because it did in fact remove the special characters) but I used the automator, and then merged my files with S4S. Unfortunately I didn't make backups of them before removing the special characters, because now a good majority of my CC is broken. Luckily I recently switched from an ancient 12 year old Windows based laptop to a 6 year old MacBook Air, so I did in fact have sort of a back-up of the CC from the Windows laptop. When I switched back to the unmerged, post character removal mod files, they were still broken. So I have no idea what happened to my CC honestly, but the character remover definitely removed the characters, lol.

Have you noticed any difference? I don't see how special character such as a _ and - and a space could cause any problems in this day. Maybe a while back with Leopard or something. I tried looking this up with no info quickly so I decided to find out if it made any difference from you. Thanks.
