I Aten't Dead

Date Posted: 31st Mar 2008 at 6:40 PM

Sorry, couldn't resist the Terry Pratchett reference But yes, I'm not dead and have in fact got a ton of things I want to do, it's just university that's taking up all my time at the moment. But hey, there's only six weeks left, so after that I'm free to do all the hair retextures I want (the Raon ones were squeezed in during an essay writing break and I wasn't really planning on uploading them anywhere) when I'm not desperately searching for a job and anxiously awaiting my results of course. I bought a graphics tablet at Christmas so who knows, I might actually get a chance to use it.

The only thing I'm half heartedly having a poke about with at the moment is some posters of 'The Mighty Boosh'. Despite hearing from practically everyone how brilliant it is, I only saw it for the first time the other week when BBC3 were having a theme night. I bought the boxset this morning. Probably not the best time to get into a new TV show when I've got all this work to do because I want to watch it all right now. Instead, I'm going to finish this, type up some work and then...it's Boosh time. Then normal service will resume because I really need to write an introduction for my dissertation. Oh well.

Ooh, I haven't written in here for ages!

Third year of uni is a lot tougher than I thought it would be, and I haven't played with the Sims for...about 2 months? That's really bad isn't it? I have been around, actively downloading and hanging around certain Forums, I just haven't had the time to switch Bodyshop on and try to make something. It's awful! I'm actually supposed to be writing an essay on Postmodernism right now, but I felt like a break so here I am!

It's the start of the Christmas holidays next week, and whilst I do have work to do, I'll have more time to do it in, so you never know, I might get a chance then. My brother's getting me Teen Style Stuff for Christmas (I hope) anyway, so I'll definitely be having a go on that!

Apologies

Date Posted: 12th Oct 2007 at 9:04 PM

I did try to upload the Heroes posters, but the uploader was having none of it from any computer that I tried. I gave up, and they're on Insim as well as my journal now. So if you like Heroes, what are you waiting for? Go!

I have to admit that simming isn't really a huge priority right now because I'm back at uni in my final year and it's all a bit hectic. I've got two presentations to do, a huge pile of books to read and an essay to write in this semester, all due at some point in the next few weeks. The only thing that's under control is my dissertation (Gender and Sexuality in Tolkien's Ring Cycle). I have to have gathered a list of materials for my tutor to see by the 22nd October and then hand in the first chapter by the 23rd November. Eek! That second part of the Jim Henson set might not be here til Christmas, I'm just warning you!

Argh *bangs head against wall*

Ok, the browser kept freezing up when I tried to upload my Heroes posters, so I've put it on my memory stick and I'll take them to university next week to try them from there. Monday if I've got time, but definitely Tuesday. In the meantime, here's a look at them:

I've put them on my Livejournal, so if you like them and can't wait, get them here! They're first, so you don't have to read my moaning to get to them

I'm Still Here!

Date Posted: 5th Oct 2007 at 10:01 PM

Haven't done much simming in a while because real life has gotten in the way. I've started my third year at university and was greeted by the realisation that the first chapter of the dissertation has to be in by Novemeber. So that's fun. There's also a ton of reading to do and to top it all off my grandad's in hospital. He had a knee operation and he seems to be taking longer to recover than they thought he would, so I don't know how that's going to turn out.

So I don't know when I'll have the time to do the rest of the Jim Henson set or to finish Freema off. I have made some Heroes posters inbetween reading and researching and they're all zipped and ready to go. I just tried to upload them, but it took forever for the zip to upload and I don't have the patience to wait right now. I'll do it again tommorow. Promise.

Success!

I finished the outfit for my Freema Agyeman sim, and, well... I like the jeans, the jacket needs work because it looks weird. I might ditch it and just do a little top or something. Look:

It just looks wrong. I'm very proud of those jeans though, they turned out brilliantly! Shame it's all one mesh but I guess I can redo them on a proper trouser mesh and do the top seperate.

Oh, and the dress I made, the one I had all that trouble with:

Dunno if it's upload worthy, but I'm pleased with it! Doing the actual photoskinning was alright, but the alpha took a while. I think I counted 3 hours!

Wahey!

My second attempt at photoskinning went rather better, so I'm feeling rather pleased with myself. I tried to make the outfit to go with my Freema Agyeman sim, so I photoskinned some jeans and that went alright. Then I found a picture of a red leather jacket like the one she wears in Doctor Who and it worked! Woo hoo! I've saved it as a CS2 file with all the layers, so I am now going to try and figure out a way to make it look shiny. Eek.

I might even give those dresses another go now!

Feeling Very Frustrated

Date Posted: 16th Sep 2007 at 8:57 PM

Whilst helping my mum look online for an outfit to wear to my cousin's wedding I stumbled upon a website that had the most beautiful dresses. Way out of our price range, but good to sim I thought. I've just spent two hours trying to get them to look good, but it just doesn't work! When you finally get the front and back lined up, you inevitably have to do something to the alpha and then sometimes that doesn't line up properly and you're left with wonky sleeves or something and tearing your hair out because it just won't go right! And that's with a UV Map, so I dread to think what it would be like without one and all I wanted to do was make it into a halter dress. I'm going to have another go later when I'm feeling a little less stressed

Internet Troubles

Date Posted: 13th Sep 2007 at 4:22 PM

Our broadband has been very intemittent recently, cutting out and not downloading things and the like. I spent 10 minutes on the phone to a man from Virgin Media this morning and he went through the checks and everything and said that it was highly likely that one of the computers on the network was infected with Spyware. Either that or the problem's with the router. We managed to discount the main computer and narrow it down to this laptop. When I ran a spyware check it had four things on it! I'm shocked! I don't want to jinx it too much, but it appears to be working a lot better now.

Still timed out though when I tried to upload my John Simm sim, dunno if that's a problem on my end or on the MTS2 end, but it said that an email had been sent to MTS2 technical staff, so that's good. The poor thing ended up in the Drafts forum again! Mr. Simm is now on Insim here . I'll keep trying to upload him here as well, but don't hold your breath!

Weirdness Abounds

Date Posted: 6th Sep 2007 at 3:53 PM

I just uploaded my John Simm sim because I figured he'd been sitting on my computer for long enough, but the site had a strop when I clicked 'submit' went to this funny error page and told me to refresh. When I did this it took me back to the beginning of the upload wizard. My sim has uploaded though, it's fine. But I haven't received a PM telling me and it doesn't say anything about currently being in the moderation queue so I'm a bit stumped. I don't know who to PM about it either so I'm a bit lost! If any mods or other knowledgabe people are reading this, could you let me know please?

The hair mesh I used isn't available anymore either so I've just PM'ed its creator to see if I can include it, but it would appear he's left the community, so I really don't have much of a clue what's going on!
