One of my biggest wishes too. Unfortunately it's likely not possible. At most they can ride in a car if you've got the mod that lets toddlers go to comunity lots. There's no base animation/container in the game that can hold a sim and drive around in a controlled manner the way you'd need for a stroller. There's cars/vehicles (limited motion range), plus items based on the robots and radio-controlled items (non-controllable with random movement - they can be ridable like Becks' animals/bikes), but that's it. So controllable strollers and other baby/toddler carrying items are unfortunately not possible in TS2, at least not now. It would be possible to make one that drives around on its own like the radio-car, but that would look a bit weird. TS3 has strollers as either a basegame or EP function (can't remember, but it's inbuilt). TS4 has baby carriers (I think it's EP-only). Both also have bikes, and I think there are a few other options too for controllable items that can be modded. |
Chris Hatch modded Rebecah's horses so they could be directed when ridden and even be ridden off lot. So I kind of hoped that could be done with a stroller.

I actually think strollers are possible, but there are a couple of modding things I'm not sure about. The way I picture it is this - the stroller snaps into one of the parent's slots, and the toddler snaps into a slot that is in the stroller. Strollers aren't self-propelled, so they don't need to move on their own like another vehicle would. It's one of the many stalled projects I've got going. What holds me back, besides a total lack of time to devote to something like this, is that locomotion animations still haven't been cracked, so there's no way to get the Sim to walk and keep their arms out, AFAIK. i wish I could extract the baby carriers from TS4, because I'm 100% sure that could be ported into Sims 2. I just need a decent mesh to work with. |
I could probably pull the mesh from TS4 if you want. I have the base game. It would be really cool if you could stick a baby/toddler in a carrier and take them to a community lot.

But doesn't that just affect visitors? I want it for playable/controllable sims.
WRT the stroller/baby carrier discussion, I am not sure what combination of mods I have but I have toddler walk to lot. It is impractical because they walk/crawl so slowly so it's best to make the adult carry them to the portal and then give the interaction. It's OK for tiny lots, like a small 1x2 or 1x1 playground.
You know the glitch where the toddler or baby gets stuck to the adult's body, like they are carrying them, but the sim can do other interactions? I have been wondering probably since base game whether or not that could be modded to add a "baby carrier" around the toddler/baby but give them full use of their arms. It would probably clip a little bit, but I don't really mind that. It was something I had in mind when I made the co-sleeper mod but it's too advanced for me to figure out. I don't think the TS4 baby carriers would be in the right places, though.
I am thinking similar to these IRL baby/toddler carriers in terms of the "stuck" positions. Although the cradle carry isn't really recommended any more (people commonly do it too loosely and put the baby's airway in danger) it doesn't hugely matter for pixels :D
I use the sims as a psychology simulator...

High chair position would probably work for the TS4 baby carriers, as long as you could slot the toddler in somehow. I think that the back carrier is better for toddlers than it is for babies. I remember my brother being carried around on Dad's back in one of those when he was a toddler.
