Updated to version 0.2 with some requests:
- Search function
- Large area to read descriptions
- Mod conflicts check

Java Version Issue: I noticed that you actually need Java 1.6 to run this tool

Your logs says that your Java are lower than 1.6

Well sadly it isn't idiot proof, as I can't use it. How about some instructions? Tried to open the shower one, cod showers, as I like that shower and wanted to get rid of the cold shower bit. All I got was stuff about a swing!!!

Sorry. I posted a bugged version. Try version 0.2.1
Just use the search tool and try searching for "cold"

Just as a quick note: I've linked this thread (and the XML tuning guide) from the download browsers for the Sims 3 Game Mods forum

Story books are full of fairy tales, of Kings and Queens, and the bluest skies.

Thanks for this great program. I am running into 2 problems. I am trying to edit the cheat plugin to make motherlode with one million instead of 50,000. I export to a package and use monkey installer but I still only get 50000 for the motherlode cheat in game. Also, I am trying to increase the trait limit from 5. I used awesome mod before to enable the debug command but I dont want all the other junk with that mod. I enable cheats and shift click to try and add more traits but it is still limited to 5. All other plugins I have made modified packages from have worked. Just wondering if there is another package I need to mod? Thanks again.

You save your changes as a .package file, and then move the package file to your mods folder, manually or with the helper monkey, just like installing any other mod.

Also, will future upgrades overwrite existing files or will we need to figure out how to erase this first?

I can't speak authoritatively on this, but most likely they will overwrite your old files. Check the readme to be sure.

Move or delete the .package files you created. This tool doesn't directly alter the game data; it creates a mod which will override the game data when properly installed.

And an answer to a question implicit in some of the comments above: there's really no general answer to the question "What can I mod with this tool?" Some game behavior can be changed by modding XML files that this tool acts on, some can't, and the only way to know is by looking. The new search function should help with that.

What number did you put in to replace the 4.0 value? It doesn't even say what this number means. There may be a range of numbers which are valid and using a number outside the range would disable the whole parameter I think. The number might for example be a percent, 40%; in which case you can't use a value higher than around 9.0 maybe. (I'm just guessing here.)

Have you tried using a smaller number than 1 million? Try putting in 100000.0 and see if it works; if it does then try 999999.0. Another number that could be tried is 99999.0. I've also tried upping the traits from 5 and it doesn't work. There are probably other parameters programmed into the game in other files which we are not accessing with this program, so just changing the number on the traits isn't enough.

I'm having same problem. in particular I want to change in game clock speed to slow down time while keeping normal animation speed, thus having activities take less in game time. only thing i can think of is "gameflow" knormaltimerate parameter, but it cannot be set below 1 cause it doesn't allow decimals. Maybe somebody have other idea how to do it?

thanks

Oh, I would that it was so easy! That's one of the very first mods that would have been created, weeks ago! I know of two people who have been working on this for weeks and at last report, one of them said that digging through many game files they had so far come in contact with over 80 places within the game that will need changing and they weren't finished yet.

Minor bug that I found, but it isn't a huge deal worth forcing another update.

When you go and do a search on conflicts, if you cancel the "OPEN" dialog, it reports back "No conflicts found.". Awesome, but, uhhh.. I didn't actually do a search. Might it be better to throw an extra conditional in there to check to see if the dialog actually was asked to open a file instead of just going to open the file that I didn't tell it to open?

Edit: Oh, and dealing with that Open dialog, would it be possible to have the software remember where the last opened/saved project is, so I don't have to go hunting for my file?

Thanks.

I'm kinda curious as to how this works. I ask, because I downloaded a mod from here (buy all fish at the grocery) and I opened the package file in Notepad, and besides a few binary characters, it's an xml file. However, the things in the XML file don't appear to show up in this modding tool. So either the mod I downloaded isn't an XML tuning mod, or this modding tool doesn't cover all XML possibilities? I dont have enough knowledge to make that determination...

I've been having fun with this and although some of my mods haven't worked completely the way I wanted...it's the first time I've been able to do any! My question is again about Number of Sims on a lot. Has anyone found a way to allow more than 8 family members? I've found a place to mod all the Rabbitholes...those lots list max # but I haven't been able to find anywhere where there is anything about just lots. I have my pregancy rate @ 100%. So I'm hoping that if I can allow more than 8 on a lot I will be able to finally make a large family! Someone, anyone?

You can't do it with this tool. I've read through almost everything, all the parameters on all the plugins and it isn't here. This tool isn't accessing everything in the game either, there are other files like fullbuild01, fullbuild02, etc. which I think this tool is not reading. From what I've read the 8 sims limit in your active family is a complicated thing and gobs of reprogramming has to be done to change it.

It appears to me that the gameflow plugin adjusts the speeds in the game. So the TripleTimeRate parameter is the fast forward speed that everyone was complaining about before the patch. I wonder what number was there before the patch. 6.0? 8.0?

I'm having a small problem with the program which I would think others have also noticed. On the dropdown menu 'File' there is no option to close the current project, and then open a new one. So when I save a project, export the package, I'm done and want to start a new project, if I just take New Mod Project the old one isn't closed down, it's still running; so a new project hasn't actually been started. So what I do when I'm finished and want to start something new is close down the app completely and start it up again. Maybe this could be fixed by placing a Close Mod Project option on the File menu?
