Me too! I remember how I became aware of the game through an article in a magazine where Sam could be seen in one picture. Then I was very disappointed that I couldn't play this character.

Unfortunately, I haven't managed to make the skin files compatible for the retail version yet. Maybe someone who has already created their own skins can help here.

Dear thread reader: Yeah, we're beyond 150 posts now! And it's all over dollhouses. We should try living a life instead! Ha-ha-ha (please grab a beer, read everything we said on the previous posts and have fun)!

Also does anyone know if there are released houses of the houses we see in the pictures in this thread? I only know three were released, thanks for anyone reading and taking their time.

Hi Kaga, thanks for stopping by. It's always relieving to find out there are other loony people in this world enough to join this club and make a sense out of it

I created and uploaded the three E3/Alpha inspired houses and families you are mentioning. They definitely are not something of a Mandela effect in your mind lol!

They were available as a public zip file on my personal GDrive until I deleted it a few months later, and I don't even remember why?!? They were unofficially reuploaded on IA!

Just remember: They're but verbatim (at least based on what's objectively known about those household) recreations, and you'll extract the files @ UserDataX/Import directory, for they're pre-developed savefiles that continue a game from where I left off, and the pack also includes optional, wacky scenarios in case you fancy challenging yourself in saving their lives from a stupid home disaster. The game will prolly warn you about some "missing files" however I don't think it'll cause a massive impact in gameplay? Otherwise I can further scrutinize it eventually?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ooooon to good ol' news ping-ponging:

A nasty and lying wizard reported to God and whatnot that, at the sight of our suddenly-empty IA folders, our Sims collection had been deliberately locked down in our supposedly "maliciously secretive", totally anti-"pretty girls don't gatekeep" attempts to upset people

Oh WWOW LOOKS LIKE HE'S WRONG AS FUCKING ALWAYS. We're back. In fact we lost access to our own IA uploads. In response to that, an admin emailed us saying it was but... an admin error. And then everything got sorted out! Duh

Try not to notice the "genius" suffix on my address! My father did it almost 20 years ago, back when I still had some sort of potential.

-----------------------------------------------------

Eric Hedman gives a flattering shout-out to this thread here by referencing two of its posts on his website. BTW, please, come on, go see it, the guy's the true genius here. Now we have absolutely zero control of who in this world reads this shitshow of a freaking awesome forum thread. Come on Maxis O.G's! In case you reach this post, consider yourselves invited to collaborate on a video -- you know, like one of those people drink and talk. Two things I'm a master of.

The thing is, though... he confuses me with Luc Barthelet. WTF? It's a funnily common whoopsie.

Thank you so much for this Lucpix, I recently were watching your youtube videos. I was always interested to watch sims 2 beta for some reason. I don't know why, maybe it has to do with the fact I like Silent Hill; I am melancholic person, seriously I have no idea.

I am really grateful for the work you have done!!!

I also made a house based on the pictures of beta sims. Not gonna lie, I downloaded every picture you posted here, just in case I make these houses...
Thanks again, learning about Sims 1 beta is really interesting. Sims 2 too, I am interested on both sims 1 and sims 2 beta, cause of how they changed from each update. Always so fascinating.

And I hope one day maybe...who knows maybe we can alter the game ourselves and make it a new game with mods passion and love. Have a nice day/night

Yeah, its literally the only skin from the three "protagonists" that we don't have.
I wish for the duchess too.

Fully second that Sir, however the clichéd twists and turns in TS1 preproduction is way more exciting to examine!

We're never short of passion and love, my Lord

O.G. Eric Irk Hedman [the guy who is one of the key reasons why you unapologetically absolutely adore the art and animation direction of The Sims, its vibrating bed and many other stuff] apparently went full story-time vlogger. Didn't watch it fully, it must be one of those things you'd even postpone your dinner for. A spice of joy for the die-hard.

Oh hi, happy birthday, Silvio Santos ("Uh... Silvio Santos?") and RIP E3 (1995-2023). Extremely devastating news.

If that's yer cup of tea, settle down and browse just about everything we got ya about The Sims' earliest public demo known to date — a modest, pretty, not-so-loud booth setting on E3 1999, intersecting, theme-wise, gardens with wall painting of cloudy patterns akin to that we see in Toy Story, and a sloppy bedroom where your stereotypical ready-to-mingle male lives in... as well as the local's overall perception towards the demo. ---

Same place and context where, internet legends have it, a game-changing Free Will same-sex kiss took place at, even though such information is nowhere to be found in documents from back then, which makes you wonder if that really happened, if that was the big-time event it is frequently described as. WTF?! ---

And ho, ho, ho, no comments on that logo--- that'd make Ruth Kedar turn green from envy. ---

The vintage-style Sims logo captivated me after seeing it in a promo for the game on MobyGames. Keep those links coming LUC!

Esteemed first-time thread reader: This is the nonsequitur information amalgam plaza upon every single little thing you did not know you wanted to learn gravitating the clichéd, touching, Amazon-Prime-documentary-worthy, the sims development rollercoaster saga. Documentation motivations include things as the author's own harmlessly uncontrollable interest in the subject, and the want to offer @ed95; something cool to see as he logs in, 'cause, y'know, he's always been a fab chap

Earlier this week, a wave of free time seemed to have slipped through our fingers, leading to the creation of a special subpage on The Sims's charmingly chaotic corner at TCRF. This subpage compiles developer commentaries hidden within the game's files. These notes were intended to inform localization staff about every internal joke and pop culture reference woven into Buy/Build Mode objects, as well as English wordplay that might otherwise be perceived as cryptic or plain nonsense when translated to other languages. For instance, Mortimer Goth's bio subtly hints at his vampiric nature, a US President "lends his name" to a wallpaper, and even the pinball machine pays homage to a The Who song! This kind of information is the very thing we sometimes dissect when gathering at The Sims' "rincóns." It's fascinating how readily available, seemingly mundane data like this, often encountered while browsing string sets for modding purposes, can unveil such depth and passion poured into even the smallest details of this "weird game." While this material might not be typical TCRF fare, the subpage's creation drew heavy inspiration from another "Translator Comments" article written for a completely different game by one of TCRF's most prolific contributors, in my opinion. Anyway, our new Sims subpage, including its connected subpages, boasts a whopping 950,000 bytes of text in total – wow, that's kind of mental and unhealthy and dangerous, even by TCRF standards!

While some notes hold more intrigue than others, the principles of thorough documentation compelled us to include even the most basic lines of text, as long as they offer insights beyond a blank default string. The original gameplay text (Always in the default "USEnglish" string set — sorry fellow gringos) accompanies the developer notes for clarity, presented in the familiar and playful Comic Sans MS font synonymous with The Sims experience. However, it's important to remember that diving into this archive it's no substitute for actually playing the game... duh!

We're stronger than your hate!

Dear first-time thread reader: a few years ago, this thread made some folks' quarantine better, and that's the only thing for certain. Now, give us 1 more year until we realize what the fuck we're on about!! =)

Wow, funny how we got so engrossed in this that we forgot to mention it. We spent a significant chunk of our summer vacation (with some level of occult pride, one might add) putting the finishing touches ("finishing", for it's a project of a lifetime 'n' beyond) on the Sims making timeline on The Cutting Room Floor. It's so ridiculously detailed, boring, unnecessary, busy, warm--possibly criminal--, you might even start to take the same point of view as one of the o.g. developers yourself as you read it! If that's the sort of stuff you enjoy.

The journey is mostly fascinating, watching The Sims transform from a seemingly doomed project demoed as a SimCity 2000 plugin, to a quirky Windows application that simulated the life of a housekeeper versus a stereotypical bald character in a wifebeater. Then, there was the outrageous greenlighting pitch where you had to kiss two women to win, along with many other strange ideas that, until finally... it became the sims, I guess? Before The Sims got too comfortable with its own fame in steroids, you'll find lessons in supreme resilience, self-belief and the importance of accessibility, intuition, sponsorship, deliberate cultural awareness, humor and wackiness in game design. Or, maybe, just maybe, we're just making it up as a pathetic attempt to justify the existence of this thread!

Hey, I'm back!!!

WOW @LUCPIX, what an obsessive (in the most positive of the ways), (re-)collection!!! Whou would've thought (even Maxis themselves), this little silly game would spawn so many articles and speculation??? Now I've have a lot to read, thanks a lot for all your dedication!!!

EDIT: I've been always mesmerized by that early build photo of Downtown. I've always wondered if it were just test lots or really the idea of the lots they intended to pack with the game; they actually have some parts that makes it looks as if they're all connected, which is not the case on the final game ─though those lots are considerably more beautiful than this early version's. On of them looks like a(n unused, obviously) train station; I wonder if they wanted to tell more with Downtown, given all you get is bits and pieces ─wich, again, is better since it makes your imagination go wild.

Thanks Is it too late for me to reply to our classic old PMs? There are many people that are exclusively dedicated to the expansion-related articles due to their advanced knowledge in the specific topic, and this is pretty kewl. Not as obsessive as one might think as the monothematic approach this thread has can mistakenly drive the reader into thinking this is the only thing we think about when our other responsibilities are forcing us to invest time and effort into more palpable (and lucrative) endeavors!!!

these are the real ones:

It's never too late, @LUCPIX!!! Teehee

Oh, what a honor to be featured in The Sims iceberg!! No offense to Plumbella (I haven't seen hers), but I sincerely doubt she's been reading the loads and loads of info that has been gatered on this thread over the four-ish years we've been discussing TS1!!! Though I can't blame her, not only is that tremendously overwhelming (not to me though tee hee), it seems as it goes on and on and you're not really sure when it will end, if it ends. I believe she's preparing another video.

Keeping tabs on this thread, as always!!!

Dw about it!! She did read the iceberg post those fans posted. At this point this thread is so rubbish that digesting the things written @ TCRF is the wisest decision Now, whether she'll respond to it creatively by making a second iceberg video, it's something to be told by time. It looks like she truly found her ikigai by investing in these types of materials, and i think it's a very beneficial viewer/creator collaborative effort. I think most youtubers of her caliber distance themselves from the fans resorting themselves by analytics, hence their often protocolar discourse.
