Default Default skin vs custom skin
Hi,
After reading several of the threads here, I believe I'm in the right place to ask these questions.... (I've tried searching but as soon as you use words like 'skin', 'default' or 'custom' you get far more results than you need (or want) and that proved unsuccessful anyway.

I know that a default skin replaces the original skin supplied with the game and you can only have one of each of the levels at once to prevent issues.

I also understand that replacing any one or all of the defaults, replaces ALL the skins on sims made with the same default level you replace.

I know that a custom skin is selectable via the custom content folder and is assigned to just the sim you are creating and you can have many of them.

Now, my questions:
1) Is it possible to take a custom skin and make it a default skin?

2) Where can I get simple replacement default skins to replace what came with the game that will not require me to replace all the clothing I have accquired? (I have been searching for weeks and have only come across hybrids and such that morph into wierd beings that don't fit into the clothes due to unusual body shapes and styles.)

3) What I'm looking for is to add a little realism to the game without going overboard or getting silly - is this possible?

Red.

PS: I've been to BAS, ISA and other similar sites but these seem to relate to Q#3 above.

Yes.

You shouldn't have to replace any clothing. Clothing is separate from the skintone; it's what makes the shape of the body.

Yes, of course. There are plenty of default replacement skins out there, and not all of them are weird or extreme. I used to have this one installed in my game. It added a bit of realism without looking too photo-realistic.

Ok, next question; how do I 'convert' a custom skin into a default skin?

As I noted in my first post, I did some searching and didn't find hat i was looking for.

Ah ha, I tried using 'converting' as a search term and found this:

This sounds like it's what I've looking for....

redvan, I found a couple other posts that I've used to make custom defaults.

This one: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=194390 is easy to follow and use and I used it very successfully.

But scrolling down in the comments, HP links to a different method that makes a much smaller file, especially if you're leaving the custom skin in your DL folder. It's actually the one I prefer to use. It's how I did my default replacement for a challenge I'm working on where I wanted aliens with different skin colors. If I ever get back to it and take pics, I made it so that the skin color changes at different ages. That's here: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=222953

Hope i've been of some help! ~VP

I will sorta try and raise a dead subject. I was looking for the default skin replacement that fakepeeps7 linked in his post, but it seems that it will not work without the original download. They gave the link in the download, but it no longer seems to work, so I am left trying to find another way to get the origainal skin download of Oepu. Does anyone know where?

You want the WCIF forum. Be sure to give the information from this thread, like the original download link, to help people find it for you.

Why not download Christian's Skintone changer.
That way you can change any sim you run in to.

I already have Chistian´s skintone changer, but incorparating costum skins into this object is very difficult thing to do (too difficult for me anyway). I once tried with a tuturail given on MATY, but it proved too hard for me.
But why am I yapping on about that. I just needed to tell that through a bit of tanacity I managed to secure the original download. Yeah, I am sorry to the people that so readily give their help to me. I seem to have the annoying habit of thinking of a way to solve the problem myself, a couple of minutes after I posted. I won´t do it again.
