Default Shorts with socks
I'm building a Jeeves & Wooster-ish neighborhood, for which I need a few kids, in addition to the more notable characters. In the old days, (actually up until fairly recently, in school settings anyway) boys under a certain age in Britain wore short pants all year round, with socks and shoes, no matter what they were wearing on top (picture Christopher Robin, Child's Christmas in Wales, etc.) I have some suitable tops for the tykes (Honoria Glossop's kid brother Oswald, for one), but I can't find shorts for boys where they're not also wearing sandals. Maybe those victorian outfits that someone put out (can't remember the site) would work, but it's either got to be separates, or a full-on outfit with long tops and short bottoms. Not necessarily a school uni, as in the photo, although that would do in a pinch. Any suggestions, fire away!

It's past my bedtime and I'm very tired, but have a look at Simphany.com (one of my favourite sites), starting here. They do the same style for teens, and it's what Andrew likes to wear to school along with a Maxis shirt and tie. I've done at least one shoe conversion for more formal occasions. I'll post again tomorrow.

At my school we had to wear short trousers till we were 14. That was 1965!

Do you absolutely need long socks or victorian-ish outfits? Couldn't find a lot of those, but did find several shorts with various shoe options (and some short socks), just in case you can use some of them. Most of the pants and shoes are more modern-ish:

Here are the Victorian style ones. https://web.archive.org/web/2015051...child_maca.html

They might be a bit fancy/formal, but maybe you could retexture the mesh.

I had THOUGHT I'd gone through Simphany from top to bottom, but I may have missed something in my impatience. I'll look again, thank you.

Thanks for that! Some of those will probably work; a bit fancy, but most of the kids in the P.G. Woodhouse universe belong to upper-class-twit families anyway, who might tend to have reactionary views on children's dress. Cool! I have some historical families in other hoods that might benefit from these as well.

The long socks kind of make the look, although some of the skater boys are at least WEARING socks, and some of the shoes aren't too objectionable. Thank you.

Sorry, I'm later getting back to you than I hoped, but hopefully with enough ideas to be of some interest.

Initially I wasn't going to save this "family". I created them just to illustrate some of the shorts that boys wear in my game. But the more I looked at them, the more I knew that I just had to have them in my game. So I've saved them into Veronaville. Initially they are living in a big house in Monopolis, a suburb of Veronaville, but the plan is they will all become townies. They may not all be suitable for your game, but I hope they may provide some inspiration. Left to right the boys are:
Marc Coventry: Marc is wearing the first type of Simmphany.com children's shorts found on pages 1 and 2. I'm not sure what material these shorts are made of, but they're available for both boys and girls. His top is by joandsarah77 from her Back To School Tshirts collection.
Peter Weir: Peter's outfit is pure Maxis. It's the base game schoolboy outfit that Alexander Goth wears in Pleasantview. Sometimes we experienced Simmers can forget about Maxis outfits, but this one looks just the right era for P.G. Wodehouse. I also think it provides the mesh for most of the All about Style outfits that Charity linked to.
Martin Walters: Martin is wearing an all-in-one outfit by fakepeeps7 from her Luau Collection for Boys.
Vivian Marshall (teen): I don't know if you're interested in teens, but children have a habit of growing up into teens. Vivian is currently looking after all the younger boys. His top is an Oxford Shirt by CatofEvilGenius. His shorts are basically the shiny teenboy ones from simphany.com on pages 4 and 5, but I have converted them to use the stockings (we call them "hose" in Scotland) from jadedicara's Scottish kilt. I'll say more about these later.
Oliver Calder: Oliver is wearing an all red combination of the child version of those shiny simphany.com shorts with a smart matching Maxis base game shirt. The child version of the shiny simphany.com shorts start on page 12, but the denim ones are earlier.
Paul Methven: Paul's out fit is like Oliver's but in different colours.
Maximilian Mitchell: Maximilian (I'm not sure if he's happy with "Max" for short!) is also wearing a pair of those shiny simphany.com shorts (his are white), but he's paired them up with one of joandsarah's "back to school" t-shirts.
Ethan Yates: Like Oliver and Paul, Ethan is wearing a Maxis base game shirt, in his case a white one. But Ethan has paired it up with a pair of practical light beige shorts from fakepeeps7's Fortune Cookie set. When looking for children's shorts it's easy to miss the Fortune Cookie set, because the word "shorts" doesn't appear in the title, but it is a set of separates for girls as well as boys. The shorts are in three colours: grey, blue and beige, and I think they are very suitable for use as school sorts.

I mentioned above that I'd have more to say about the shorts with knee length stockings that Vivian (the teen in this group). Vivian is not the only teen in my game to like these shorts: my friend Andrew (my very first Sim) likes to wear them to school:
Here Andrew is just getting out of the taxi at the house in Monopolis, where Vivian and the boys are living. (I think it's the best picture of Andrew that I've ever taken.) Andrew pairs the shorts up with a Maxis base game shirt and tie to make an outfit that he feels is suitable to school. He says it helps to make him feel in the right state of mind for education. He also says of the shorts that they're long enough to be respectable, but short enough to be sexy. In the last few days I have made similar conversions of the grey and white simphany.com shorts with the kilt stockings.

Now I'm not sure if you'd be interested in the teen versions, but, inspired by your picture, I'm going to try to make child age shorts with knee-length stockings, using either the kilt stockings or ones from the Skater Boy outfits, linked to by simmer22 above. Probably I'll make both, using both simphany.com shorts and fakepeeps7's. These will be primarily for my own game, but, if you're interested, I could share them privately.

Sorry again for taking so long to post. I did have to do a bit of searching to find everything, but the main cause of delay was when I started playing all the boys in my first picture. As you may have seen in the random questions thread, Peter Weir nearly got taken away by the social worker when he managed to miss the school 'bus.

The Peter Weir outfit, you say, is Maxis? So I should be able to find it right in CAS? Of your boys in the picture, that's the closest to what I need, but I'd be interested to see what you come up with along the lines you've mentioned:

As for ingame outfits for CM, there's also the outfit worn by Alexander Goth, seen here: https://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/14976.html

Directly below (middle) there's a recolor, and it says there's a custom file included in addition to the defaults.

If the problem is that the outfits don't have socks, adding socks to outfits isn't too difficult, and would open up a few more possibilities for you if you find outfits you otherwise like. You'd need Bodyshop and some kind of image editing program (Gimp, Photoshop, or anything else that can work with layers is recommended), and maybe a tutorial (I can see if I can find one for you if you're interested). You don't need to be good at drawing, because most of it is copy/paste and somewhat simple editing.

@simmer22 - I've played around with bodyshop somewhat, but yeah, a tutorial would be very useful. Thanks!

These are the ones I could find now, but there's probably more.

https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=182614 - Basic Gimp
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=183370 - shows some more texturing tools in Gimp
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=183379 - shows how to edit the alpha in Gimp (a bit simple, but it shows the principle)
https://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=180663 - Photoshop, more on editing textures but shows some of the tools
https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/moo...ng-a-t1216.html - a PS tutorial I made a while back, a bit more centered on texturing, but it's got some tips on tools and a lot of pictures.
