Default Not too happy with the Sims 3....
I just bought the Sims 3 this morning.

I was so happy I was right at the door when the store I pre-ordered opened. I brought it home and put it into my computer.

Before I bought this I checked what the team on the sims had to say about requirements (basically that it will play on your grandmothers computer). However, it wasn't to be. After I downloaded the game it would not play. Apparently my four year old graphics card was outdated.

So, alas, I went out and rented me a brand new 4G computer with one of the best graphics card. It downloaded and I've been playing for five hours.

And....I'm quite sad.

I was expecting greatness. After the Sims 2 it had to be awesome, but the more I played the sadder I became. Sure it looks okay - not as great as I would have hoped, but okay. It has some features I wish were on the Sims 2 but then I adopted a baby.

I LOVE raising my families. It's the highlight of my Sims lives. But the infant was different. First he came swaddled like baby Moses. You can diaper and feed him on the spot but the diapering is so generic it made me long for the good old changing tables of the Sims 2 - which are absent. He spun like a bug in a cocoon for a second and that was it. She magically makes a bottle appear out of nowhere and it goes away the same way. Sure some people might not mind the extra steps but I feel it has taken away the realism of it all.

The characters faces look bubbly and chunky and my sim still spends so much time sleeping because even at the fastest speed the clock seems to move at a snails pace.

I've traveled around town, but I just haven't put a finger on the magic of this game yet. It's only been a few hours but what I've seen so far has only made me want to play the Sims 2 all the more. I'll keep going for a while hoping it get's better, but I've got to say the hush that the creators were keeping all this while was for good reason....it kinda sucks.

I'll keep trying though. I hope you all have better luck.

I am similarto you. When I started playing I expected SO much better. i read the reviews who already played it and who were offered a chance by EA. When I was over friend's house I expected awesomeness to appear on the screen. In the end: Sims looked very similar no matter how much I tweaked them. When I was wondering in the town I had same feeling as you are: I wanna play sims 2 again. I wanna see if I can go over there again some time and see if my opinion will change. I doubt though.

I agree, I was so disappointed... if I were to make a list it would be very long, weddings, childrens clothes and hair and community lots we cannot go into are on there though...

I bought The Sims 3 this morning as well and I thought that it was okay. It was pretty much the same as the Sims 2, just tweaked in certain places. I only played for about an hour or two so I wasn't able to take the time to play the game to it's fullest potential. And it didn't seem to help that my computer was running slow. It seemed to take minutes just for my sims to move from one spot to the other. I'm sure if it had gone at a faster pace that I would have enjoyed it much more, but it was really just an annoyance. Did anyone else seem to have this problem or is it just me?

I can't believe people are complaining about how similar Sims look in this game... Yet have NO problem with cookie cutter Sims from 1 & 2. :/ The mind boggles...

I just didn't like the snail paced sleeping. It took a good minute and a half (of REAL time) for my Sim to finish sleeping for the night.. WTF? I was a little perturbed by it.

I also didn't really like the way Buy Mode was set up. At first, I thought it was neat. Now, it's just really annoying. I took the disk out of my computer and now I'm playing TS2 again.. I'm planning on installing TS3 on the computer I keep in my boyfriend's room, so whenever I'm down to visit him I'll probably play it. But my laptop will be all about TS2 still.

:/

ETA: I didn't mind the way the Sims looked. I thought they were precious ^_^ Especially the little mailboy with his round tummy and round face. Lol.

don't worry guys maybe in the release of the first expansion pack things will be fixed. all that was not in the base would show up in the later expansions. like the sims 1 base game have the billiard table but in sims 2 it shows up in university, maybe if the changing table doesn't showup in base it would show up in later expansions.

Yep, sims 1 had a billiard table in the base game...but Livin' large came with a spiffy red one for variety. :D

Beware of Elves giving wedgies.

didn't superstar gave the fancy pool table? it added lot's of superstar objects read as useless expensive crap that collects dust in your house. It was fun though I miss it. If they do make this for TS3 I am buying it :P

You know, the Sims looks are actually growing on me. Heck yeah, I want some CC, but they are kinda...cute. The big thing that disappoints me thus far is...they go into a restaurant, they go on a tour, they go shopping...and we don't see it! It would be way more fun to me to be able to see them in a crowded bistro eating, or browsing through racks with the townies. This is a big open world, I want to see them out and about. If they gave us nightclub community lots, casinos, fun nightlife stuff like that, I don't want to stand outside the door until they are done, I want to see the action. That's the biggie for me, and I hope they consider changing that.

well that really sound nice, but it would make the game bigger and or slower.

I tghink the funniest element about the complaints about how Sims look.

Please note these kinds of comments are being made by the SAME person.

In thread one:

'I am really unhappy with Sims 3 all of the sims look the same'

In thread 2 on the subject of genetics

'Genetics suck the children never look like their parents'

well we not to sound stupid but if all sims look the same, how can the children then not look like their parents unless you accept that the sims don't look the same, in which case why did you lie in your first post? Or are you just coming on here to whine?

**edited after note** Incidentally the above is true of at least 12 posters I have come Across so this is not a single person. But rather a group of people who seem to be using the same inconsistancies. Hence why it is appropriate to be said here as it is a GENERAL trend in my OPINION.

Sidheed, the purpose of your comment in this thread, where no one has made either statement, is mystifying to me. If you must challenge someone's opinions, its better to respond to them directly in the threads where they post, don't you think?

Firstly, I have an opinion I can state my opinion. If you are now saying 'everyone else can have an opinion but you are not allowed yours' then that is more than slight hypo critical.

As for my comment this was said by someone earlier in the thread

Quote:
I can't believe people are complaining about how similar Sims look in this game...

This means that someone had mentioned what I was in fact commenting on. Meaning it was in the thread already? Or are you now going to pit a post to them telling them they are not allowed to express an opinion too?

By pointing out people are being inconsistant in giving opinions I am not saying they are not allowed one. I am simply questioning why they say one thing and then in the next breath, figuratively speaking, say something completely contradictory.

If I was saying 'you are a fool you should just stop right now' that would be me trying to stop others having an opinion.

My last paragraph was:

Quote:
well we not to sound stupid but if all sims look the same, how can the children then not look like their parents unless you accept that the sims don't look the same, in which case why did you lie in your first post?

So how can pointing out there are inconsistencies in someones arguments and asking why this is the case be stopping people from having an opinion?

I do also suggest read the whole of a thread before trying to imply something is off topic when in fact it is not.

Default So Sad
Oh I'm so disappointed, I hate Sims3! And now I'm afraid that it will kill all of the Sims 2 download sites that I love. What's up with not being able to go into venues? I will give it another shot, but I purposely gave my Sim a wide range of experiences to try out as many features of the game as possible and I really think that I'm just going back to Sims2 or canning the whole Sims experience altogether. And I've been playing Sims games since the first Simcity came out. SimTower, SimFarm, you name it I've played it but this game is nothing at all like what I wanted and I don't think it's anything like it was advertised either.

The recipe system isn't bad and the job payouts are more realistic but those things could have been incorporated into a Sims2-like game. And no matter what I do I can't get rid of my Sim's bubble face, which I hate.

Grrrrrr!

Usually when a Moderator points out such a thing/comments on your post its a good time to let it slide.....

Kittymom, I don't think it it will kill all of the TS2 download sites. I think in the end, there are going to be very divided camps for TS2 and TS3 and a lot of people who will probably play both games.

Having said that, though, I have to say after several hours of attempting to play, I'm also finding that it falls rather flat. Part of it is because I'm rather tired, but part of it is that the gameplay is very slow and it seems like I just play and play and play and make absolutely no progress. For one thing, I absolutely hate, hate, hate the over-crowdedness of Sunset Valley. There are way too many Sims, it seems like about 75% of them single females. For reasons I still can't figure out I actually started with a female Sim this go-round (most times I start with a male). So far this Sim has played a week of her life and she has befriended two single guys, one of which now insults the snot out of her and the other (his brother) who is a loner. And now those guys have the added baggage of two infants!

In ways I'm enjoying this, but I'm still scratching my head over a Sim needing 10 hours of sleep a night. That just isn't right. My TS2 Sims stay up until at least midnight, usually 2 a.m., and are up at 6 a.m. every morning with no problems. Oh yes, Janna rarely needs to use the toilet, but she needs to eat constantly.

I'm not having as bad a slow-down I don't think overnight and at work as some are, but it's still on the slow side.

I think I'll like this better once I get used to things but I'll probably have to end up nuking the entire neighborhood first just to get some decent Sims in there. :P

Our site is both TS2 and TS3 friendly and I have no intention of getting rid of the TS2 downloads.

Sorry but moderators express opinion just the same as the rest of us.

In this case:

a) They said I was not on topic, when there was reference to what I was talking about on the thread.

b) By trying to censure one persons opinion in favor of another they were being hypocritical.

c) there is no such thing as Moderator infallability.

d) Not see the difference between showing inconsistancies in someone arguments and trying to stop someone having an opinion

So I can and will express my views they can express theirs. But you need to bear in mind that in this case they seem to have been speaking in an individual capacity rather than an official one.

I am sorry but I am ENTITLED to an opinion. No where in the board ToS does it state that to post on a thread you HAVE to agree with the original post.

Also if what I am saying is wrong can you please in a reasoned fashion say what it is? Rather than just saying I am a mod and you are wrong.

Sorry but you are not infallible in this case the mod in question was wrong. Sorry it happens welcome to the human race.

Sidheed: nobody ever sayd you are not entitled to an oppinion. Your original post was just out of context as none in this thread had stated those two lines.

Nowhere did I say *I am a Mod and your are wrong*. Your words not mine.

I would suggest next time that you refrain from saying that someone was lying....I think that's what bothered me the most. Reply to someone in *that* thread where *that* comment was made and always be gracious and polite when expressing ones opinion (ie: don't say that the person was lying).

This will be my last response to you.
