I'm quite liking the game like the way you can follow them about just don't like the way you can't move away from the sims to look in other areas even to look for the paper - but I'm really missing my cc just don't like maxis furniture

'Genetics suck the children never look like their parents'

well we not to sound stupid but if all sims look the same, how can the children then not look like their parents unless you accept that the sims don't look the same, in which case why did you lie in your first post? Or are you just coming on here to whine?

**edited after note** Incidentally the above is true of at least 12 posters I have come Across so this is not a single person. But rather a group of people who seem to be using the same inconsistancies. Hence why it is appropriate to be said here as it is a GENERAL trend in my OPINION.

Well, I have yet to post and I think all the sims look like they have a spare tire around their necks. No matter how skinny you make their necks, it always looks like they have a double chin. Its kinda weird to me. And some people might all have the same issue. The only way it'll be change is if a bunch of people complain about the same thing, because then you know it is not only you having the issue.

"So your biggest problem with TS3 is that is isn't TS2?"

The step from TS1 to TS2 was incredible. It was essentially the same game, but it was much more realistic and customizable- everything was an improvement. I knew there would be some differences in TS3, but I expected them to fall along the lines of the TS1-TS2 change, the same game, just better. I thought things would be made more realistic. I was excited about the seamless neighborhood, and had no doubt in my mind that every community lot would be enterable. When they weren't I was absolutely dumbfounded. I would take loading screens over un-enterable buildings any day. Why on earth would they release a game with such a gigantic hole in it? The game is still "The Sims." Nobody is complaining that TS3 isn't Spore.

"Nobody remembers that TS2 sucked without custom content."

That's just silly. Custom content just changed the look of the game, not the way it was played. Yes I love my more realistic eye colors and different hair styles, but what I loved about TS2 was how the game was played. Also, I feel that build-mode was only slightly enhanced with CC. Most of my TS2 houses were made with materials from the base game and expansion packs, not CC, and imo they were all beautiful. I think tweaking the color of a wallpaper down to a specific hex code is annoying and it's ridiculously time consuming. Which brings me to…

The beauty of TS2 was that it could be played in multiple ways. There were people who enjoyed raising families, pursuing wants, creating storylines, etc. and people like me who not only loved building, but enjoyed micromanaging their sims lives. I felt that some of the challenge of the game was making sure all their needs were cared for. It's not fun if it's too easy, and many of the annoying aspects of the game were fixed with mods. I think that game players like me have been alienated from the game with the arrival of TS3. Building has been replaced with "customizing" and honestly, I still don't really understand how to play the game- and it's not for lack of trying. Someone in this thread said earlier that it was like they tried to adapt a console game for the PC and I couldn't agree more.

The hype for this game was that it would be a better and more realistic version of TS2. It isn't. It's a completely different game that doesn't deserve to be called "The Sims 3". I think the creators should have acknowledged the new way they were taking the game and differentiated it from The Sims, like they did with My Sims. My problems with this game aren't with the graphics or lack of content (though both bother me), but with the actual gameplay. People need to realize that only a few type of sim players benefitted from this transition and many others did not.

I'm also disappointed with the online store and the expectancy to buy objects that should have been in the (already expensive) game in the first place. I've probably spent well over a thousand dollars on all the previous sims games and expansion packs, and this is just a slap in the face.

I'm happy for the people who enjoy this game, they are the players that have been catered to. But for me, and many others, I will be going back to my beloved TS2 and waiting (though not with high hopes) for expansion packs.

You said it all. :D

More likely to show up in the "store"
Sure sure. They charge us 70 bucks for a stripped down game that's frankly not as good as TS2 and then nickle and dime us in the "store". There's like what 5 shirt choices and then a billion recolors... if you don't fork over more money, you are stuck without your changing table and a lot of other stuff.
One of my biggest issues is the food things. One item required to make a meal? Come on! You see them using the bread and butter to make the grilled cheese, why are these things not required??? Add to that the fact that one portion of cheese will make one single meal or a group meal. huh? My Mom was great at making food go a long way, but even she couldn't do that kind of magic.

The game is a disappointment and doesn't live up to the hype. Who cares if you can follow your sim to work? What's the difference in being stuck outside the work place while they do it... speeding up the game (to a speed that is not as fast as before) and being stuck at their house while they are gone????? Nada. it's still BORING. Someone suggested exploring the town. Yeah.. that's good for a day or two, tops.

what happened to the interactions and things that were already in the game and working? Ya know, like actually getting into your car and parking it? Did anyone else notice that you can put your car into your hammer space pockets? A pocket that around here is known as "Invisible Backpack of Godly Might and Space" You can carry your CAR in your pocket while you walk around town!!!! It doesn't even fold up into a briefcase like the Jetsons... it just goes poof. Grrrrr

*wide eyed look* I'll stop venting now. *sheepish grin* I "am" trying to enjoy the game. Really I am. they just made it so darn hard to do so. *sigh*

After reading the first post in this thread I am now concerned. I ordered mine from Amazon (should be with me tommorow or Monday) but I only got it cause it said you didn't need a super-computer to run it. My PC is a P4 3.40gb, 3MB RAM, Windows XP Service Pack 2, NVidia 6600 Graphics Card (256mb). Is it going to run or will it look pants!
Not too worried about downloads and stuff just now...as I have Sims 2 for that.

CAS is bugging me. It's proving hard to get the results you want. I was just building an alien and it's impossible to get his eyes big enough, impossible to REMOVE HIS EYEBROWS ENTIRELY, and impossible to give him a bald head!!! I had to give him the shortest buzz cut and colour it to match his skin tone, which doesn't look right, but it is the closest I can get to a hairless dome. How stupid is that?

Indeed. And not just that, just simple short hair isn't in the game either. That's got to be the type of hair most men in the world have. Just plain, centimeter or two.

I agree, CAS in Sims2 was better :/... although choosing the sim's body shape/muscle/voice is kind of cool :D

Another thing that bugs me is Baby/Toddler interaction that hasn't evoled at all... we actually lost some of them from sims 2.

We cannot "talk to" babies anymore, changing diapers is not realistic, we cannot bath our child anymore, food and bottle out of nowhere (lol), no more baby/toddler table.

toddlers look to old to be a toddler in my opinion... in sims2 they we more cute ;D

I hope in a future expansion pack we can see the inside of a community building (and maybe job building !)

testeure I hear you, I used to love spending a little quality time bathing my babies. My Sim parents always looked so tender and contented when they were giving their little ones a bath.

I'm not unhappy with the game as such, but moreso with the store. I got 17 dollars worth of sim points for registering (which is still 1000 points) and the only thing in the store that actually looks good is the hewnsman set at 2000 points. Now do EA REALLY think every Aussie is gonna fork out 40 bucks for a couple of items to get in their game? Are they serious? REALLY EA? REALLY?

I think that's ridiculous. I can buy an ex[ansion pack for 40 bucks. Not spending it on ITEMS. Get lost EA. I hate you.

My husband came home two days ago with a handful of those damned Sim Cards from Best Buy. He handed 'em to me and said, "Hey, can't you get stuff for your game with these?"

I love him...but why does he have to tempt me?

But there is a baby/toddler table. In fact, they have one shaped like a turtle now and it's rather cute. I don't think it has all the same interactions, but it is there.

Coltraz: Yeah, I was wondering what was up with that - no bald heads? They have them for babies, why not for the adults? I'm wondering if its an oversight or something. We do need some pointy ears and bald heads.

Thanks for the reply Misty 2004...my game didn't turn up today so I will have to wait to monday now. Is the game really as bad as everyone is making out? I remember switching from Sims 1 to Sims 2 and wasn't disappointed with the graphics (as 2D to 3D is a good change) but was sad to loose some great feaures that were lost in the Sims 1 Expansion Packs. Over time, however all those great things were re-introduced into the Sims 2 (well most things anyway)...so is it really that bad to wait awhile and see what happens with the game before slating it?
I must admit when I first saw screenshots of the Sims in Sims 3 I wasn't overly happy how they looked (I think I even mentioned it in a post and got slated myself for being negative about a game that hadn't been released.)...this will probably change as people learn to create things for our Simmies. I think there are replacement skins out there already...so I am keeping an open mind. I have yet to really truely play Sims 2 as I seem to spend most of my time downloading & sorting then actually playing.
All the best,
Zen

I pre-ordered my game and got it yesterday. At first i thought it's not going to run on my pc because it doesn't match the requirements but turns out it works, its just that the graphics are bad, and the game is veeery slow... I dont really know what's wrong exactly with my computer so if anyone can tell me that would be great.. . I didnt think I'd have this problems cause my pc is quite new.. anyway here are my system properties
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5200 @ 1.60GHz, 1015MB (RAM), 32-bit, Windows Vista.

I think overall it is good game, and at least has the potential to be.

I'm a bit disappointed that things from TS2 EPs weren't included in TS3, for instance:

No Uni
No nightclubs, lack of enter-able community lots
No ownable businesses
No weather
No pets
No holidays/vacations
No apartments

Theres also no stages, half-walls, multi-storey columns/windows, or mansard roof pieces.

The brick and other exterior textures don't look as realistic as the ones in TS2, and it gets annoying having to colour each wall and carpet.

The furniture, windows, doors.etc for some reason don't look as good as in the TS2 basegame, and there seems to be a lack of elements that actually match. Most of my favourite CC for TS2 was "Maxis Match" sets, such as window expansion sets, the "Counter Culture" expansion set.etc, so I hope that it will be possible for CC in the Sims 3.

On the plus side, the lighting is a lot better than in TS2, furniture can be placed at 45 degree angles or on half-tiles, and lots tie in seamlessly with their surroundings.

The big thing that disappoints me thus far is...they go into a restaurant, they go on a tour, they go shopping...and we don't see it! It would be way more fun to me to be able to see them in a crowded bistro eating, or browsing through racks with the townies. This is a big open world, I want to see them out and about. If they gave us nightclub community lots, casinos, fun nightlife stuff like that, I don't want to stand outside the door until they are done, I want to see the action. That's the biggie for me, and I hope they consider changing that.

I couldn't have said it better myself, I WANNA SEE EVERYTHING. Even if they just made a funky little movie loop it would have been better than not seeing anything at all.

And ya know what (I just came back to vent a little), everyone is saying how they're jumping back to TS2. And I'd love to do that BUT I HAD UNINSTALLED MY TS2 & all its EPs BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT IT'D CONFLICT WITH GRAPHICS/SPEED OF TS3! And i absolutely HATE reinstalling games I already played- its a big pet peeve of mine. I wish I had a "test" computer that I could have installed ts3 on and then if I didnt like it I'd be able to come back to my good ole' ts2 computer but I dont have money like that

I really do hope that they come out with an EP for TS3 so that'd they can be able to make it more like TS2. I KNOW they're coming out with an EP for pets for TS3- they've done it for every game but I'm hoping they fix the issues ppl are talking about as well. I hope they don't ignore us because we really do pay their salaries.

Alrighty then, my vent is over.

That's really the problem for me, too. I hate having to just watch the building they're inside, If I wanted that I'd play Sim City or something. The Sims 2 is definitely more in my favour.

Not even if you move to the next floor view? There is no option to have them visable or not, they are visable all the time.

I am so disapointed! I spent my absolute last money on this game! The first time I played I stopped playing after an hour becuase I hade gotten nowhere.

When I played the Sims 2 for the first time I NEVER went back to the Sims 1 ever again. Only hours after I played The Sims 3 for the first time I went right back to my beloved Sims 2!

Yeah, they do not look like they have double chins. I've seen this several times and can only come to a few conclusions -- either the people saying that haven't figured out how to use the sliders properly to make the faces/jaws more defined, or they are mistaking the natural shadows which fall on a sim's neck (cast by their, you know, HEAD). Or they are just neurotic about weight and see fat everywhere.

I am a sweet, fluffy bunny. I live in a golden meadow surrounded by unicorns and butterflies. I have 10 nice points.

Better?
