Default Multi-story garages (terrain level acces to more than 1 floor?)
Hello, new here..

I have a little problem with building my lot. I want a big lot with a two story garage as seen on these two screenshots:

But i've noticed you can only get one layer of terrain to fit on the floor tiles.

I've already worked with the "constrainfloorelevation" cheat etc but I just can't seem to figure out the trick for this.

This is where I want to connect it:

But the ground level terrain keeps jumping when I try to do so, even with the above cheat.

Am I missing something? Is there another cheat or trick for this?

I hope it's possible in some way... Maybe with a foundation of 20x20 or so where you can make valey's and use the constrainfloorelevation cheat..

I know this might be a hard one, but having multi floor garages is just way too awesome especially with nice car mods Thanks for reading/helping!

As far as I know there's no possible way to achieve that what you want without any build CC. I'd suggest you use the Retaing wall by Flabs and CAST the flooring so it matches.

If you remember me, I'm awesome!

Thanks!

I will surely look into that. Might as well get me some new cars while i'm at it.

One question though: say I save this house, do I always need this mod installed for it to work properly?

Yes. If you remove any mods which are used on lots or on Sims, they will be replaced with EA items. Doesn't look pretty

It was very easy to install and also ingame it's easy to use, but how do I place tiles on top of it? Terrain paint doesn't seem to work either and having grass doesn't look that good.

I've been testing it here:

Thanks!

Edit:

Found it, you can do it by create a style. Although it's nearly impossible to find the correct walls and tiles to match with it

A bit weird Sims 3 isn't wheelchair-accessible by default

Found it, i've edited the solution in the previous post.

Thanks again Johnny

Well it seems that i'm good to go to make at least a realistic looking two-story garage

However, from the looks of these screenshots I think I might require something, ehh, bigger, with more floors, to make my Tropical Supreme Leader Dream Palace In Infidel Desert look realistic as big and awesome

So: is there a way to use this to make more than one floors but without using more than one side of a 64x64 lot to make the driveways? So maybe with more floors on top of eachother, but I don't know if that's possible with the previous mod.

Simply put: I just need a let's say 4 wide 6 long/deep stairs but with a ramp so sims could walk over it and it should realisticly be able to let cars drive over them.

Or maybe there is a 6x6 car lift mod somewhere Or I can build something with steel parts that makes it look like it but then again you'll need a normal elevator next to it.

Thanks again for any idea's about how to make parking garages, i've been wanting this for very long, i'm also working with Create A World so a big nice looking parking garage would fit right into the city or in a luxery home

You may have better luck asking some of your questions over in the building forum.

I made a car lift for one of my old houses so that I wouldn't have a mega garage. I created a basement under the garage, and I opened the floor using this trick http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=464673 . I then laid down a small (3x6 IIRC) stage covered with the metal floor covering directly under my hole. I used columns or maybe the corner piece from Lisen's jail set on each of the corners, and I decorated a nearby wall with a switch box from a Frankenstein set. Use moveobjects to place a car on the stage. Tada - underground car storage.

Thanks, still need to find my way around here lol. I've already found a section where they also help with more specific stuff. I now use ramp stairs but there is also a Walk In Basement something so i'll look into that asap

A car will park itself anywhere there is a driveway in Sims 3, regardless of whether that driveway is actually accessible from the street. In fact, since cars don't drive up from the street into the garage, then actual driveways are kind of pointless. You can build a garage with parking spots in it at the extreme bottom of a multi-story basement, or you can build a garage at the very top of a highrise, just as easily as you can build them at ground level. It's all the same in Sims 3 from a gameplay perspective.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he/she is just going for the realistic look. The search for realism is why I made the car lift in one of my garages. Now, I mostly don't care and fill the basement with cars.

Yeah I want to make a realistic house with realistic driveways, that's why I dont really like the stair slopes as they are way to steep that even an SUV wouldnt make it

I'm looking into the "Walk In Basement" tutorial aswell i'll try ingame when I have time to play

I think that's the only solution that will work with 3 garage doors fitting on to the terrain

You can build a driveway from ground to the garages first floor, but from there you have to fake it.

This probably belongs in the building forum. That's where you will find the tutorials as well.

Here is a tutorial, but you have to learn cfe or constrainfloorelevation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_ZamoY6lWI

What you want to do, and how you want it is up to you. Also with cfe the lowest you can have the gap between two floors are 1/4 wall or 4 clicks. Then you can use a staircase to fake with, elevators, or what else you might find.

I honestly think tht 1 floor is the maximum if you want to keep the garage good looking.

I actually saw a house with an elevated road surface a bit out from the house. In Sims it would probably be a click, click, click cfe nightmare, but it may work.

Edit: you still have to get across the level gap though bah

Yeah thanks, i've been looking into the Walk In Basement tutorials but cutting the terrain layer open is only possible when you place stairs I guess, so yeah doesn't matter if I do this trick or just add stairs on a normal house with garage without tricks.

I'm afraid that you're right. I've been trying this for the past 4 days, 5 hours a day each time so after 20 hours I still haven't found a solution to do this.

Which sucks because one floor is too small to make it look realistic and nice

Also why isn't there a building section showing up for me? I can't find it in the forum index so i'm kinda confused

I only see these: Sims 3 Discussion

Gameplay strategy and discussion for The Sims 3.

It's super frustrating to not be able to build something how you want it. I think it would look cool with the multiple floors, but I think you're going to need to bend reality to get it.

The building forum can be found under Create: http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=594

I'm still learning how to navigate the site, and I think I started lurking here when I first got sims 2 years ago.

Ooooh this site has more forums than 1 now I get it.

I was starting to get angry that I couldn't find the right section, normally a forum has all the sections showing up on the index but here you have to look around find other pages and through there you can go to a different forum on the same site

Well kinda confusing but I got it I guess.

As for thee multi-floor garage, after 30 hours of trying I think it's just not possible

By the way: Where can I download Worlds from this site? I can't find any only lots

I've been busy with this case for quite some time, stairs always seem to be the only solution if you want to create the suggestion of ramps , I say suggestion because the car/plane will "jump" from the street to a free parking spot (so if you don't want to look like a real garage: no problem at all (max you need is moveObjects on/off cheat)...

For a solution to make it look real you'll need some form of ramp, and as said above stairs don't look realistic as driveways. The solution I found was a flattened stairs (still steep but flat so much more realistic) and found it here:
http://www.thesimsresource.com/memb...amp/id/1058580/

With this i could make a large parking for my town center (a total of 508 (!!!) parking spots of which 8 All Access, 2 Helipads on top and an additional 24 biking spots... At the top level a security office and a small bar/terrace for people waiting and 4 male+4 female toilets. Spread over 9 Levels (4 of 56 spots underground and 5 ground level and above)

As you can see below I chose for a 2 ramp system above ground

Underground I used the ramps right under the previous one (creating 4-2x2- extra spots free)

Although the planes weren’t part of the original question I thought this might inspire-> when becoming a more experienced builder I learned about foundation tricks (creating a 2 level high ceiling for ground level 4 example) and I learned planes could be yours with mods = ideal for a military base, a underground airport… So got me thinking and after tests and lessons learned, a 5 fighters and 2 private jet basement

Which basics could be used for private us as well, out of sight with own landingstrip (-.075 basement level -lower than foundation basement next to it-) ->

This last pic shows a slope in the corner (behind the plane) to a basement parking, with daylight through the pool (top of screenshot), basement -2 level is 60x60 large (could be more parking… just chose not to ->

Because how nice it might seem to make large parkings and basement airports, with each house having them it became less special (and started building a new world for myself not long ago and decided not to (this time

Hope some of you guys have learned something/found your solution/got inspired.
Google send me here many times while searching over time but when I found the ramp I never came back Now looking for another version (this ramp is only in black, would prefer grey (as the road itself) I came back and didn't see the clear solution as this ramp was for me so made a account and here you go my first post :S

Seen the positive reactions on the previous post where I showed how I used a ramp for cars and a way to make inhouse airfields I lateron realised that I missed the oldest way of transportation: the horse... Because what is the Home of a Persian prince without his horses... I didn't try it yet ingame, and if the horse doesn't use the ramp and won't go to groundlevel... well could try the elevator ;P

In this model you can see many expensive cars, but also the escort cars in front of the garage (white BMW X5), the other side of the wall gives place for 3 horses. So in the end: bot charge station, many cars, horses and bikes @ -1 floor level, still a gray ramp might be better to make matching roads with the town but with black this is still as real as it gets I guess...
I used the pools (with fountains in it) as a way to get daylight into -1 level (I use that often to make it realistic, windows @ the outside wall underground won't do in my mind (except 4 example a underground level in sea, made a underwater hotel that way once using the aquarium windows

To finish here a police station on a slope, a entrance high up and one many stories down. The garage is at -1 level and I build 3 buildings on different heights on top of is (to keep the slope effect visible), underground you can see the slope go on and on while ont ground level only the usual 4 tiles in the length of the stairs are "opened up"...

That ramp is rather interesting, but you should post in the thread we made for this walk-in-basement technique ages ago. You might find some inspiration there as well here .

This thread has just about escaped the attention of the mods. They will probably be here soon. As far as I know this brakes two rules, the nekro old thread in this sims3 discussion forum, and the subject didn't belong here in the first place. It belongs in the building forum where necroing old thread is ok as long as it stays on topic. The link goes there.
