Is there now a silver ball in every lot since LN? I mean, even the new worlds from the store?

It's mainly found in appartment buildings like the high rises, also if you download a lot that is classified as an appartment, there will be one or more on it.
Also it should not be removed as the building will no longer work as an appartment for non played sims.

I have noticed this problem in some of my older properties every time there is a patch. I right click on the light and autolight all lights then set the default color to white. That messes with flame effects but it does let me know if there is a problem. I usually have to replace lamps and flame lights to get the color right but you can adjust all of them back to flame one at a time. Its tiresome but effective. A mod would be nice if it added all but flame to the choices.

I noticed that after I swithced from TS2 to TS3. In TS2 it was more realistic, you didn't have to torn the lights on during the daytime if the room had enough (I don't mean many, I mean enough) windows, and in TS3 you either need to keep the lights on all day (and have quite a lot of them per room), or build rooms with a lot of large windows. It looks weird to me, it's like summer outside, but inside it seems like a drak winter day. However, I found invisible wall- and ceilinglights from buydebug a good solution. I'm not crazy about havining too many lamps all around the house (moreover that the lamps in the game are usually quite large). Light interirors also hlp, I like them IRL and make comfortable homes with light walls and quite light furniture.

I've already turned shadows off. It doesn't help much. The invisible buydebug lights help more.

Thanks, Belzader. I think I'll leave well enough alone, then.

How do you "turn the shadows off"?? I can't find how to do that in my game

I know this is resurrecting a year old problem, but I'm still trying to figure this out.
It's VERY dark in my whole world.

I tried this mod (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=395011 - it makes the sun come up much earlier and go down much later) but that mod seems to be borked, as when I use it, it becomes night all the time. ARGH. (prolly got borked when seasons came out because I think seasons effects the time of the sunrise and sunset)

Is there any way of increasing the brightness of the overall world? It's really hard and strains my eyes when I'm hunting for seeds and such...

You could try turning brightness higher on your monitor.

You can try using my lighting mod here to see if it helps.
http://simsasylum.com/tfm/index.php...-moon-lighting/
It's required to register at that site though, to view or download anything. Registration can be done through the link in my sig.

What this mod does is make the lighting in general less harsh and shiny, also the moon size is increased so it will be lighter always at nighttime. Also the glary extra light blowing off countertops, picnic tables, appliances, and more or less everything else is reduced; this is the "Bloom" players have always complained about which I'm referring to here. It cannot be used together with other mods like the one you linked to, as I've used two ini files which other mods also always use.

Edit: Oh, you can't turn off Shadows, it's impossible. The only thing you can do is set it at the lowest.

Thanks, Shimrod. I assume this lighting mod from Burnt Waffles will conflict with your mod?

Yes, certainly. It's easy enough to open up my mod and that one side by side though. Mine has only 2 ini files inside, so it's really simple. Any numbers from my mod could be moved into that one if there is an advantage in doing so.

It sounds simple, but I have no idea, at all, what to do.
I agree with you. The glaring counter tops definitely are horrid.

Thanks so much! It looks awesome to me (we'll have to wait until my fiancé, Jenn, gets home and plays tonight to make sure it's good for her, but I think it will be

The message you are quoting was from June 2009, so at that time it was probably considered a "new" lighting engine, as opposed to the lighting engine from Sims2 for example.

You could always cheat into debug mode for build/buy and add a crapton of invisible ceiling lights.
