Wow, definitely much better usage of the space, and you seem to have kept with the overall style. Great job improving it. Looking at the before and after over and over must be fun ;D

It's a shame that EA's own designers couldn't come up with nicer lots that make better use of the space like this. Yours features the types of things which we experience in real life such as the viewing balcony, the two connecting but different use pools and a much more effective gym layout.

I do prefer this gym to the one in the other default town but your easily beats them both.

Now all we need is proper spa equipment and extra jobs integrated into more community lots. I don't know about the rest of you but I'd love to see my sim working part time as a receptionist on the entrance desk, or as a café worker or even as a fitness instructor for the gym area/pool.

It is a shame but then I'd have less to do, I enjoy fixing up original lots or dl'd lots to work and flow better and be more realistic.

The original was OBVIOUSLY a recreation of "Tony's Gym" from the "The Sims; Bustin' Out" PlayStation 2 game. It is a very striking yet subtle resemblance and the similar parts are spaced out between the two floors, because the original layout of "Tony's Gym" would be pretty useless for a community lot in The Sims 3....

I think it was very considerate of the people working for MAXIUS the DEVELOPERS (Publishers like EA don't like to do much of the real work, but they do like taking the profits. Although I'm sure they must do SOMETHING other than advertise it...) to not only leave something like this for the slightly obsessive ("die-hard") fans to notice and even nicer of then to make it still fairly useable.

I should thank you just for letting me know about this little minor thing-that-slightly-resembles-an-easter-egg that was hidden from me previously, but I honestly think you may in some way have made it MORE OBVIOUS THAN BEFORE!!

....I think you broke my brain, or maybe ended the world...
OH WELL! We can always make a new one!!

If you like, I could go into detailed description of how "Tony's Gym" looked, or you could TRY to find something on it on the internet (Other than YouTube, I have NO idea where to start looking)

I will continue this through PM's if you like, but if not then THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR INADVERTENTLY LETTING ME KNOW ABOUT THIS!!! Really, this made my day.

And now I am off to find my badly scratched copy of a game I bought when I was eight, jamming it into my shiny-shiny PS3 and hoping it doesn't explode! (because then I won't know if I was way off/hallucinating/loosing my memory or not....)

When it's 4 AM, and you can't remember why people even bother with sleep, then the TRUE gaming begins...

Uh, SonyRules111, Maxis (not Maxius) no longer exists as a separate entity. It is now wholly owned by EA Games. Maxis did not develop Sims3. EA Black Box division developed Sims3.

Whether the gym's design was an homage or not, it was very poorly laid out. What gym do you know of that has a pool alone in a huge room? This is much better. It still doesn't look like a real gym to me externally, but I understand what Nallis was going for.

(Also, it is "losing", not "loosing").

I agree, externally it still fails, which irritates me very much. But I'm hoping that the small complex of 3 homes near the community pool in the default neighbourhood will convert nicely to having houses with the gym integrated, I usually find gyms in complexes or part of other buildings at the very least.

Thanks for the redesign, it looks much better than the original. I installed and played with this in my neighborhood today and ran across a small problem. My sim couldn't access the showers. I rearranged a bit and everything was fine, but I thought you might want to know.

Oh, don't mind me. I was just having a slight adrenaline rush and reliving some HAPPY childhood memories I had long since forgotten.

Don't worry, they are all quashed now. I knew something had happened to Maxis, but I had hoped that EA had just gotten territorial and stamped their name on them.
I should have expected the worst, what with the entire games industry going down hill for a while now...

Apparently developers aren't allowed to specialise in anything other than shooters these days. I wonder if there is any POINT in striving to work in that industry eventually anymore, if all I will ever do is work on blood spatter physics....

I think I'll go back to wallowing in self pithy and eating things I'm allergic to. At least I can do that better than I can spell.

There is a backless shower on MTS2 that would go very nicely in your revamped gym. Also, may I suggest glass doors for shower cubicles? Professional gyms actually use frosted glass doors for shower cubicles.

As for changing cubicles, until EA releases new objects, we can make a mock locker room area with some dressers as a group changing area for the sims. I doubt professional gyms use personal changing cubicles - these are more for boutiques that sell high-end clothing.

Also, you need more shower areas in the gym - a first class gym ought to have adequate places for the members to bathe after a sweaty workout.

Lastly, Snaitf has "gender biased" doors that actually work - you can have male and female changing rooms. Sims of the opposite sex will not enter the wrong changing room.

I have the backless shower in already, however, despite it being backless, it still functions like the original shower and you CANNOT place 2 next to each other. Glass doors for shower cubicles wouldn't work as you would have to have a 2x2 shower cubicle with these showers. Don't think I haven't already considered it.

There is a section with dressers already for getting changed in, it's next to the toilets, it is the largest area in that section. There are 2 further private cubicles for those who required privacy. I did want to put benches in the larger part however none at this time suited.

More showers didn't work as the backless showers do not function unless spaced apart.

I know of these doors, but I do try to avoid as much custom content as possible, I'll wait til an expansion introduces such doors. People themselves can add such doors if they want.

The gym is going to be remade anyway as part of my project to revamp Sunset Valley. Whilst I like the improvements of this 1 so far it still doesn't 'feel' like a real gym and the exterior will not match my other lots. Hopefully I can make it a larger space and deal with the changing rooms issue as that was the one thing that was driving me up the wall! Thanks for your feedback

I love this gym remodel. But just so you know, you have the showers right beside eachother, rendering them useless. My sim could not access them. So I had to rearrange and without moving walls around you can only get 1 shower in each space you have allocated. So instead of 8 showers this gym now only has 4. Just wanted you to know.

I've always hated the look on the original gym myself. As you say it's quite uninspiring. I love that you have added more gym equipment and given the whole lot a total makeover
